Jan 22: For longhand-on-the-bus time, I made a feint at the story's opening paragraph. I didn't like the attempt AND the connections were all perfect/fast, so when I got to the office, I shut the door and opened my notebook and wrote some more, and I maybe like this version better.

I might try to get more in when I get home this evening, but we'll see.
