Oh, I read the article about queer representation in fiction over the years linked in the new metafandom, and it got me thinking about the Rose of the Prophet series that came out in '89. To the present day reader, it leaves a lot to be desired. At the time, I found it absolutely mind blowing. I'll link when I'm finished droning at length about it if you want.
