~ ~ ~

[personal profile] ysilme here: so far today, I've written about 400 words for the Christmas story, which very likely need a rewrite, but anything written down is good as it's easier to edit what's already there. ;o) I also wrote about 800 words meta, but might work at that a bit more later on - it's been a decent day for writing, and I'm still awake enough to get a bit more done.

[personal profile] sylvanwitch here: 235 words more on the story that isn't being written. Rodney is being recalcitrant with everyone but me, which, I guess, is a good thing. Sadly, I don't have much time to give to writing tonight, as I'm trying to get ready for a trip.
sanguinity: woodcut by M.C. Escher, "Snakes" (Default)

[personal profile] sanguinity 2019-10-10 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
No proper time to write today, but piggy-backing off of yesterday's alibi sentence, I wrote a paragraph that I think finishes this flashback I've been stuck on for yonks.
china_shop: Close-up of Zhao Yunlan grinning (Default)

11th: An extremely flashy 700-word flashfic, sneaking in under the wire of the latest round at [community profile] fan_flashworks. :-)

Yay for finding the way through! That's great news!

Yay! Yay! Yay! Look at you go! *\o/*

Here's wishing you more good words, hon! *hugs*
alexseanchai: Katsuki Yuuri wearing a blue jacket and his glasses and holding a poodle, in front of the asexual pride flag with a rainbow heart inset. (Default)

[personal profile] alexseanchai 2019-10-10 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I've written over a hundred words on this scene, at last. Of course, Thea startled badly at the sound of the vacuum, and was Displeased at the notion of going to a floor the vacuum is not, so now there are welts on my arm that are painful and making it sound unpleasant to keep trying to write…but hey, I've got somewhere!

Oh, no! The scars we earn for love, right? I hope you heal quickly. That sounds painful!

Also, YAY for words! (Especially words at the cost of actual blood--lol!)

anything written down is good as it's easier to edit what's already there

This is becoming my mantra!

Day 10: a little bit of poking at different parts of the story resulted in a net gain of 170 words. :)
fadedwings: (Default)

[personal profile] fadedwings 2019-10-11 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I wrote about 500 words on a new little ficlet that I'm not sure about, but hey, words are words, right?
nafs: red dragon on lavendar background - welsh or celtic style (Default)

[personal profile] nafs 2019-10-11 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Only a paragraph of new words today. Still writing and rewriting the outline/ structure to try and give this thing a skeleton. Would be a good day to just type up some of the longhand but I can't make myself pull out the mechanical bluetooth keyboard yet and it looks like the earliest I'm getting the laptop back would be Tuesday.

Question of the moment: exactly which season does all this take place in and is it the same season in each pocket universe? Fairly sure it's sometime in spring - is it end of term? Are any /all of the characters having to take/ prep for exams on top of everything else? Do I have to rewrite any outdoor scenes? What if it's winter . in two of the universes? I don't have a compelling reason for or against which is why I'm stuck.

It's not working for me this week. 260 words on spook_me
lferion: Art of pink gillyflower on green background (Default)

[personal profile] lferion 2019-10-11 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Day 10 - I have to count today as amnesty sentences, enough of the imagery and key phrases from things I saw on the 10 hour drive to the event I am at this weekend.

I did manage to post the words for the Silmarillion Writers Guild challenge, juuuust under the wire. I will put the pictures in an fix the wonky formatting when I am not trying to do things solely on the phone.
yasaman: picture of jasmine flower, with text yasaman (Default)

[personal profile] yasaman 2019-10-11 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Day 10: fleshed out and finished up the scene I've been working on the past couple days with 540 words of writing, and mentally blocked out the next two short scenes.
sakana17: shen wei holds on (guardian-shenwei-clutch)

[personal profile] sakana17 2019-10-11 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Day 10: Writing's been stalled this week but today I managed 186 words in the brand new story.
carenejeans: (Default)

[personal profile] carenejeans 2019-10-11 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
Today I basically wrote a 500-word...list.

But I was inspired by Austin Kleon, who says: "Make lists of things you want to write. It's easier to sit down and write if you have something in mind."

Apparently I have a lot of things I want to write. Most of the list was ideas for essays and meta, but I'm going to try to make a list of fiction ideas tomorrow.

Next step: writing stuff on the lists! ;-)
bookherd: (Default)

Day 9 was an alibi sentence; 990 words for Day 10.
auroracloud: a fountain pen against a sheet of paper and writing (writing)

[personal profile] auroracloud 2019-10-11 09:02 am (UTC)(link)
I was pretty busy, but I wrote a few sentences of both fanfic and novel.
lilacsigil: 12 Apostles rocks, text "Rock On" (12 Apostles)

[personal profile] lilacsigil 2019-10-11 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
Day 11: Finished second draft of fic, yay!
sylvanwitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sylvanwitch 2019-10-11 11:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yay for net gain! The poking is often the important part, even if it doesn't feel like it at the time. (I used to get SO HUNG UP on the word counter that I'd put a piece of sticky paper over that part of my screen, so I couldn't see it.)
sylvanwitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sylvanwitch 2019-10-11 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Words are words" must be, I think, the unofficial motto of WED! :-). Yay for words!
sylvanwitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sylvanwitch 2019-10-11 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, the time/season situation...I went through that (and to some extent still am going through it) with the ambush project novel. In my case, I think I'd accidentally set it in two different seasons. *sighs* In your case, it sounds like you've got more goin' on, time-wise, so that's got to be a challenge. Um, if it really doesn't matter--and I mean this sincerely--could you flip a coin or use an online random generator to make the choice for you?
sylvanwitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sylvanwitch 2019-10-11 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, hon...I'm sorry it's all being so miserable right now. I hope the long weekend brings you a chance at some writing time.
sylvanwitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sylvanwitch 2019-10-11 11:56 am (UTC)(link)
Any words are good words, particularly if you're traveling, and I can't speak for anyone else, but I do count tweaking and posting as words as well.
sylvanwitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sylvanwitch 2019-10-11 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow--that's awesome progress! Great work! :-)
sylvanwitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sylvanwitch 2019-10-11 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, yay! I'm glad you found a hook for a new story and that the words are finally flowing! :-)
sylvanwitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sylvanwitch 2019-10-11 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
This is a great piece of advice and one I can definitely see myself using! I'm glad the list was so inspiring for you and brought you ideas for new stories! Yay!
sylvanwitch: (Default)

[personal profile] sylvanwitch 2019-10-11 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! Great word-count for Day 10 and hey, words are words, right? Good for you! :-)

[personal profile] sylvanwitch 2019-10-11 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for getting words down when life is making you otherwise occupied!

YAY, indeed! *\o/*

[personal profile] ysilme 2019-10-11 01:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That is a great idea, I'll need to try it out. I have lots of ideas and things I want to write written down _somewhere_, but mostly it's hidden somewhere, and I often forget about it again. Putting it all together in one list could make quite a difference! :o)
silveradept: A kodama with a trombone. The trombone is playing music, even though it is held in a rest position (Default)

I got into more Grief today, and also spent a decent chunk of time rubber ducking how I might make a work that relies heavily on song lyric accessible to someone with a screen reader so that they could enjoy it while also making it possible for sighted people to enjoy it without it feeling clunky.

The answer seems to lie in the CSS available on AO3's Work Skins. Which means I have a lot of Copy and Paste in my future.

Thanks but no. My brother is coming for Bob Evans Farm fest this weekend AND I have to get my edits done for the first round of editing with my publisher for my ghostly Christmas story

As I am a tech novice, this all sounds pretty intimidating to me, which suggests that it must be a lot of work, and it's excellent that you're doing it for accessibility reasons. I hope you find a way that works so that anyone can enjoy your story!

It sounds intimidating, and this will be the first time I'm working with work skins, but I have been working with CSS off and on again for a significant amount of time, so I feel confident that I can handle it.

Which is also why I'm not passing a difficulty judgment on it, because I suspect I have more experience and expertise coming to bear than I consciously remember.
