[personal profile] ysilme here: still feeling exhausted from lack of sleep due to coughing. I wrote about two sentences so far, I think, and re-posted my pinch-hit story to my usual haunts after the reveals tonight. Not much to show for the day so far, but I hope a bit more is coming forth still.

[personal profile] sylvanwitch here: I finished editing, found a title and managed a summary for, and posted the Bond/Q story I've been working on since mid-December. Feeling good! :-)

For the purpose of this challenge, you decide yourself what "counts" - the whole intent of the challenge is helping each other along with keeping up with writing in the way each individually needs to. If somebody only wants to count words written for stories or finished/posted stories, that's perfectly fine. But as a not-rule (since we don't really set rules ;o) ) the challenge operates on the idea of "everything counts as long as it counts for you", and if this is just an alibi sentence or even just your comment for reporting your tally, that's perfectly fine.
Those of us who're doing this for a few years already have noticed that it does make a difference to occupy your mind each day with "writing", no matter in what way. Most or all of us (I don't know as nobody keeps track ;o) ) count editing, and sometimes also research, as worth counting for the challenge, and the alibi sentence is a thing!
I started doing this after NaNo 2016 and am doing this continually since then. I've learned over time that for me it's most important to keep at it every single day, no matter with what. I need the feeling of have done something "creative" related to writing to keep me motivated and on track if the inspiration is lacking and the writing energy is low. So even if I'm "just" editing or researching, I'm making a point to write an alibi sentence, which sometimes is something just written for that purpose and won't be kept. But it does still make a difference, for when I get back to my story I can see that something happened, no matter if it's just for throwing away. If nothing happened that might easily make me doubt or throw me off again. I'm sometimes also counting letters/mails or even long comments written to friends, if they're about writing, or about details concerning a story or so. I'm also counting blog entries if they're about a certain subject and not just a personal update or so, and so on.
But it's really just up to you. You don't need to tell anybody or explain anything, and you also don't have to list a number of words or so - nobody will ask for proof or check it. Just do what works best for you and what you need to keep going, as this is the main purpose of the challenge: to support ourselves. :o)

Thanks! I'm having insomina problems in general, so I don't mind as much - not being able to sleep because there's a proper reason for it is easier for me to bear, TBH. ;o) Thankfully, the bad coughing stopped and I've been able to sleep a few hours by now.
That writing exercise sounds a bit complicated to me, but likely only for my still sleep-deprived mind. *g* I hope you can work it out in the desired way for you!

I'm glad to hear you're feeling better! Yay! :-)

And thank you for the congratulations. I'm having post-posting slump at the moment but am hoping I'll come across a new idea(s). :-)

Sometimes, the temptation to fiddle is overwhelming, isn't it? For me, sometimes I find myself fiddling when I'm uncertain or dragging my feet about writing new parts. Sometimes, of course, fiddling resolves an internal sense of "something's wrong with this, and I need to fix it before I can go any further." I don't know...I used to be strictly a NaNo-model kind of writer (get the words out, don't worry about their quality until later), but I think I've moved past that now. I don't know...

Anyway, that's just me musing. Sorry to ramble! I hope you find what you're fixing is making the rest of the writing easier for you. :-)

I smile whenever you say you've "managed" to write upwards of 800 words because I know for you that's a low daily word-count, but for me, these days, that's higher than average. Anyway, yay for words! :-)

You're more than welcome! Hello again! :-)

Daily small word counts are sometimes the lifeblood of my writing routine, so I appreciate these check-in totals. I wish you many more words in whatever form they arrive for you.

Sometimes, the writing has a mind of its own where deadlines are concerned, right? Yay for words, even if they weren't on the project you were expecting! :-)

Also, noted, re: time zones. :-)

One of the things I most enjoy about hosting WED is learning about the way other writers do their work. Your methods are fascinating to me and way outside my own comfort zone. I love when a writer OWNS the process, though, and you are so confident in it. That's awesome!

Also, YAY for that word count! :-)

Hey, words are words, especially when you've got medical stuff going on. I hope things resolve for you soon!

Writing for the 3rd consisted of the second of [community profile] snowflake_challenge's prompts, where I found it really difficult to pin down the spot where "fandom" as such began.

I think I'd probably have the same problem myself. I don't do the challenge because I can't post publicly, and it feels weird to do it under access limits, but I appreciate all the great stories coming out about how fans found their groove. :-)

Thank you! I guess it's just the way my weird mind works best.

Some challenges have a word limit, and while I enjoy the process of editing down to hit the right word count (whether that be exactly 500 words or under 1k), it often leaves me feeling the story is not as good as it could be. I've got one that really needs a smut scene, but the challenge community doesn't allow explicit content so I left it out to write later. I'll get around to it when I'm in the right mood. =)
