Welcome post

Day 1: [personal profile] china_shop

Let us know if we missed you or if you didn't check in for a while, so we can add you. Of course joining the fun is possible at any point.

~ ~ ~

[personal profile] ysilme here: a few hundred words of nonfic and some editing of an old WIP.

[personal profile] sylvanwitch here: 209 words on Chapter 17, post-action-climax but right at the beginning of a fairly heavy emotional scene that will recharge the suspense but in a different emotional direction. I didn't see this coming, but it makes excellent sense for the character in question.

Yay! Thank you for hosting again!

Aug 1st - I was out all morning but I managed 550 words after I got back, a triple drabble and a 250 word drabble that I might try to expand into a triple. Haven't decided yet.

Thank YOU for being here again! :-)

Excellent word count, as usual, and I love that you are so dedicated to (and good at) drabbles. NOT an easy form without practice, for sure! YAY!

Thanks!

I used to look on in awe when other people wrote drabbles, convinced I could never do that, but now I've written SO MANY, and I even run a drabble community. I like the challenge of keeping things brief and hitting the wordcount, although these days I write fewer 100 word drabbles and more that are double, triple, or even quadruple.

Endings can be so tricksy. They hide and skulk in the shadows and play dead (the worst!) and dissolve into nebulous mist just when you think you've cornered them. I have every confidence that you will find your ending, however, and I hope it's as soon as you would like it to be too!

Usually I have some sort of arc in mind, with a definite idea that the ending lies in that specific dell over yonder -- although I often wildly mis-estimate how far away that dell is, and not infrequently I change my destination partway through. But I do generally know where I'm going!

Whereas this story has been pure aimless bushwhacking, with nothing more than a vague sense at any given moment that this direction might be more interesting than that. I'm hoping I've done enough routefinding over the years that my instincts are good, and I'll eventually come upon a path leading to an ending, but at 12K into the wilderness my faith is starting to get a little ragged...

2nd: I went to writers' hour and spent it working on my WIP. (I don't mention fanfic in Writers' Hour, I usually just say short story, but I've started referring to this one as a novella. It's 23k with maybe 2k to go.)

I have 3 short deadline stories to get to and no one seems to want to write (mostly because a) I'm busy binging watching while I can) b) trying to prep for the semester's start) Finally managed 625 words on one of the stories (reminder to self these are fan exchange stories that do not need to be 10K)

I can definitely relate to your reluctance to write, particularly as I'm currently teaching a one-week workshop and then rolling right into letters of recommendation and prep work for the new year. *sighs* So, GO YOU for getting those 625 words down!

Thank you for the good luck. This is the least motivated, most casual group of students I have yet taught in this workshop, which is something THEY choose to take and their parents pay extra (to the school, not to me) for, so typically I get mostly motivated students, but many in this group just...aren't. I'm like, guys, I can't help you improve upon a college application essay you haven't written yet, and the class is over tomorrow, so...

Whatever...it ain't my dime. ;-)

Hello, thank you both for hosting the new month! :)

Day 1: 300 words after a tiring day at the office.
And this morning, day 2: 700 words, about 250 of them reworked from another part of the draft.

This chapter is getting a bit disorganised; I've got one part that I wrote with the last chapter and then moved, and I'm not quite sure what the best order to put the scenes in is. But there's only a few of them left, and I'm sure they'll work themselves out eventually...

Excellent progress for both days! I wish you the best in figuring out the order of the scenes. I think that's one of my favorite things about writing--the way the structure can be like a puzzle and then suddenly it all just makes sense where the pieces need to go.

Hello! Checking in for Day 1 with a bit over 600 words.

I’ve been dealing with a lot of stuff – my mother passed away at the beginning of July, after being ill for a long time. So writing has been hit or miss for a while. But I’m trying to get back into both writing AND checking in!

Also – if nobody else has volunteered to host in September, I’d be glad to do it.

I am sorry for your loss and hope that you are finding ways to be kind to yourself while you grieve. I'm glad you've found your way here to us this month, and if you need anything from us by way of help and/or encouragement, please do let us know.

And THANK YOU for volunteering to host! As far as I know, we don't have a volunteer, so I think that makes you winner, winner, chicken dinner! :-) You rock!

Congrats to starting again this month, and with such a great word count, too - but be gentle and kind to yourself, and allow yourself all the time you need for whatever. ***more hugs***
Thank you very much for offering to host September, that's awesome! I'll put you into the list, but please don't hesitate to pipe up if it won't work out or so.
