ysilme here: My eldest niece has just finished her Abitur and is backpacking in Sweden for a month. This morning she sent an emergency request for instructions and recipes for simple & vegetarian youth hostel cooking, and I ended up typing 2,3k of a basic backpacking cookbook for her. ^^

sylvanwitch here: I received a rejection for the close-to-my-heart horror story I'd submitted three weeks ago. I think that makes five times it's been rejected. I will keep trying, though, because I firmly believe there is a home out there for it. In response to that disappointment, I tried writing an alibi sentence and ended up with 361 words of a new story, including a detailed paragraph about where it's going, so there's that. If rejection keeps breeding new stories in me, I guess I'm okay with it.

It strongly resonates with me, altough these days less for the "just sit down and write" aspect of it, but more for the part "it's the writing that makes you a writer, not adhering to this-or-that instruction, direction or suggestion". There's been a time when I've been made to feel that my instinct about writing was wrong, and that I'd only be writing "right" if I'd follow this or that, which rarely happened to be what felt right to me, or where my stories wanted to go. Back then I'd been an insecure writer with not much experience yet, but looking back I did well enough (still having to learn a lot, but who doesn't). One of the most important lessons I learned was to trust my instinct, and ignore instructions or suggestions when they don't feel right. Tally-wise, in addition to yesterday's longhand draft notes I transcribed part of that in the evening, adding about 65 words for me for the 24th.

sylvanwitch here: Today's writing has consisted of formatting the flashfiction for sending out and doing some research into potential submissions venues. I have neither the time nor focus for actually writing a cover letter, however, so this will get submitted eventually. Off to wander the mountains!

I'm sorry I'm posting so early today, but we're about to leave for trailer driving lessons with my father, so we'll hopefully finally be able to go on a trip with our small caravan. ;op Yesterday was spent with having the (propane) gas check done for it and starting to clean it (accumulated dust and spiders from standing around for two years), so also not much writing happened for me; 52 alibi words on the WIP which I'm not keeping again. But like the day before yesterday they're useful to get me to those I want.

sylvanwitch here: Day one of our mountain vacation has been lovely so far--frogs, birds, squirrels, and a blue sky over the green hills. I just finished my first full draft of the flashfic, cutting out a whole bit but tightening up the tension and finding my ending as well. Yay! Off for a long wander in the woods.

ysilme here: The image and the choice of today's quote are by me. For day 20, after a miserably hot day and a training session I had to go to, I wrote an alibi sentence evolving into 257 words I'll be deleting again as they're no good. ;op

sylvanwitch here: My house is in total chaos, but I sat down and worked on the flashfic some more. I did a full edit and tightened it up a lot, but it's still about 40 words over 1K and I need an ending (maybe one or two sentences). I'm going to use tomorrow's long drive to percolate ideas for the final lines. Meanwhile, I'd say I added and subtracted 200 or so words.

Thank you all for your replies to my request, they're most welcome! I'll get back to them a bit later; I've invited my parents for tea and forgot the house is a mess, so there's a bit of emergency cleaning ahead. ;op Day 16: wrote seven? or so reviews, added a word or two to yesterday's bingo fill draft while mulling it over, got the beta back for chapter 3/5 of the WIP, put in the edits, and posted it, and went through the prompts of Scribbles & Drabbles again to choose the ones I'd like to claim.

sylvanwitch here: I wrote and submitted an exactly 50-word story on the theme of "treasure chest" to the Scottish Book Trust, which hosts a monthly competition. I found it via my weekly Duotrope themed deadlines email and thought it sounded like fun. My focus has been on professional-rate SFWA-qualified publications for several months now, but since I just finished "The Factory" in draft, I thought I deserved a treat. I have little chance of winning (the prize is a mug), but it feels awfully nice to just play around with words a bit.

Day 14 brougth me a bit over 1k; 375 words on a meta post and 657 words on the now penultimate chapter of the WIP, rounding it up and being just shy of sending it to the beta - there's one phrase I'm unhappy with and will go over again once today. Also caught a plotbunny for a bingo fill while watering my vegetables, and worked part of that out until I was done.

sylvanwitch here: 567 words on "The Factory," most of the denouement, just need the resolution, which I hope to get to tomorrow. (I know, I know, I said the same thing yesterday, but it turns out there was more to be resolved than I'd initially expected. Also, I think this story will need significant cutting in the editing process, so I'm letting myself have all the words for now. ;-)
