[personal profile] ysilme here: Weather is lovely, internet issue unresolved without much chance of  doing so here, so I'll stick to just posting the daily entries as I write them offline anyway. Please bear with me if I'm slow to respond to some issue you might mention, as I'm delayed in keeping up with your comments.

My own tally will follow later, too, as I'm only starting to write now for today. We've had a delightful day of catching up with sleep, reading, lots of leisure and listening to music, and a lovely long walk in the sun which graced us with beautiful weather against all predictions. It was very cold and windy, but we had sparking reflections on the sea, tangy sea and salt air, cries of gulls, and sand and pebbles under our feet - I couldn't possibly ask for more. I've also been reminded once again that being at the sea even for a few hours is a kind of instant battery filling and mental relaxation for me.

Which brings me to a general question: do you have places, rituals, occasions which work in a similar way for you?

Tally:

Day 1: [personal profile] alexcat, [personal profile] alexseanchai, [personal profile] carenejeans, [personal profile] china_shop, [personal profile] cittasette, [personal profile] cornerofmadness, [personal profile] navaan, [personal profile] shopfront, [personal profile] sierranovembr, [personal profile] sylvanwitch, [personal profile] talkingtothesky, [personal profile] trobadora, [personal profile] ysilme ( 13/13 so far)
Day 2: [personal profile] alexcat, [personal profile] alexseanchai, [personal profile] auroracloud, [personal profile] carenejeans, [personal profile] china_shop, [personal profile] cornerofmadness, [personal profile] kara_mckay, [personal profile] navaan, [personal profile] shopfront, [personal profile] sylvanwitch, [personal profile] talkingtothesky, [personal profile] trobadora, [personal profile] ysilme (13/15 so far)

Let us know if I miss d you or if you didn't check in for a while, so I can add you. Of course joining the fun is possible at any point.
~~~
[personal profile] sylvanwitch here:  I wrote 1029 words on the ambush project; it's flowing nicely, and I'm hoping that remains the case.  As to the question[personal profile] ysilme asked, I engaged in a battery-charging ritual just this morning.  After bone-chilling cold and tons of snow, we're getting a thaw, so it was in the mid-forties (F) today, and the sun was blazing away for most of the day. I took a long walk around the block, which for me means about 2.5 miles, much of it along the river, which was glinting silver in the sunlight and absolutely mobbed with Canada geese.  About halfway through the walk, I realized I had been grinning uncontrollably and completely unconsciously for some time, and even once I discovered it, I didn't change my expression. I definitely felt completely rejuvenated being out in nature for an hour or so, and I reminded myself for the umpteenth time that it's ALWAYS a restorative for me, so I should do it more often.
Most of my words today were outline words - or maybe I should call it a zero draft. I wrote about 1000 words of that and then proceeded to switch things around a lot, because I couldn't make up my mind about some POV issues. But I think I've hammered it all out now, so with any luck tomorrow more actual fic words should be happening.
That groundwork can be so tedious but makes future work so much easier, doesn't it? I think you deserve extra applause for putting in the time and words on stuff you know is preliminary but necessary. (It's sometimes hard for me to get motivated to do that stuff because it's not as much fun as the writing itself.)
Thank you!
I like outlining sometimes, but when it won't fall into place and I have to fiddle with the outline for ages until it makes sense, it can be very frustrating.
That said, to c&p what I told another friend when I posted it: What I wanna know is why it is so difficult to find a happy medium between "write 4500 words in 7.5hrs without noticing it might be wise to pause to eat, drink, pee, or sleep" (that is what happened Friday night, except it was mostly Saturday morning) and "stare dolefully at the blank screen, knowing exactly what happens next but not having any idea how to make it WORDS" (that is the project I was kicking at all week).
Not loads from me, but I did add a few hundred more words to my chocolate box. It's mostly fleshed out now, but there's a few connecty bits that are fighting me and it needs more shippy content *eyes it crankily*
I'm sensing a theme with these treats. I wonder if it's post-holiday-fest burnout? That's speculation, though, not hard science. LoL! ;-)
Anyway, I hope you find the connections you need and that they come with shippy flow too. :-)
Hi there! I am back from my trip and having fun with jet-lag so my Day 3 writing was an alibi sentence.
I actually should be removed from the Day 1 list - I was just saying hello on the check-in post. Not sure I wrote anything other than emails on the first.
Just an alibi sentence for me today -- well, three alibi sentences, which I may add to later.
It amuses me that the word count for these alibi sentences is exactly ten more than the finished but tiny stories I wrote yesterday. 8-)
*g* I know this! When I started with WED, my alibi sentences really were just that, often enough not more than 5 words. But every time I felt like an alibi sentence, a bit more happened, and by now it's usually around 50 words or so. On the other hand, my alibi sentences often are parts I'm going to delete the next day, but at least they got me over some hurdle or other.
I came up with a new idea for my Chocolate Box fic, since I felt I didn't know where to go with the fic I'd started. Then I wrote some 300+ words on the new idea. (So technically, I've fulfilled the word count requirement already, but I do hope not to leave it at that!) I was pretty busy and distracted most of the day, so I was glad to get that much done.
For me, spending time in a forest is a similarly recharging, refreshing time. Also other natural places, for example walking by a lake if there's not too much human-built stuff on the view at the same time. And now that we've got tons of snow here, sometimes just a snowy enough landscape can be good! Again, as long as there's not too much things people have built.
Congrats on the break-through for a new Choc. Box treat idea and for the word count on that. It has to feel good to be making progress. :-)
Like you, I prefer my landscapes as human-free as possible, where the vista isn't interrupted too often by built structures. I find contemplating a landscape free of human interference very soothing.
I'm the same in general, including the human-built stuff - sadly, I live in an area where about 98% of everything is cultured in any way, and even forest doesn't really feel natural any more. It's refreshing and recharging to be outside even so, but never this kind of instant full recharge I seem to get when having a day at the waterside or so.
I've investigated possible remix candidates in any possible direction. Made notes. Reread canon focusing on a villain that appears in one line of the thing I might be remixing now after all. I feel this is going to be experimental and I hope it's not going to be a complete failure.
I better try to write this now and then have someone check it against the original and tell me if this works or not. ^^;
