Write every day! - July 2022 - Day 1
Jun. 30th, 2022 10:03 pmWelcome to Day One of Write Every Day!
If you're new to WED and need more information, please check out the welcome post and our introductory post, which provides information and useful links. Of course, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask them here or in a private message to
sylvanwitch or
ysilme!

We're looking forward to a fantastic month with all of you and would love to hear your plans for this month of writing. Are you working on existing projects, launching new ones, experimenting with a new process, overhauling an old one, editing a draft, writing for a fest, and/or playing in your favorite fanfiction pool? Whatever your project(s), please share, if you're so inclined, so we can cheer each other on. May the Muse be kind and all the words good ones.

ysilme here: 388 words of drawer fic for me - I should be working at my fannish WIP, and finish my art contribution to a current challenge, but there simply wasn't enough time today.
sylvanwitch here: 268 words on one of the two original short stories I'm currently working on, this one about a disco in hell. My goals for July are to finish these two stories and to submit at least two short stories for consideration at pro-rate publications. (I've currently got four out there already.)

Date: 2022-07-01 06:58 am (UTC)My goals for the month: 1) finish my humour fic (I'm currently on chapter 3 out of 7, and it's already over 6k), 2) if my auction fic comes back from beta, work on that again, 3) finish a draft of either my post-canon multiple POV WIP or my Prehistoric Curtainfic WIP, depending on how I'm feeling. (Both could use outlining, so maybe some of that.)
1st: I've made some progress on my humour fic, but I don't have a word count. (I also went for a long bike ride and had to stop to write down a reveal I'd figured out.)

Date: 2022-07-02 08:58 pm (UTC)Ha, yes, a bit ambitious, but it's more a "planning what's next" than a "I have to finish these." None of them have deadlines. :-)
and for unintentional angst in the humour fic - sounds good to me! XD
Hee! *hearts*
and of course these things need taking down, otherwise they're gone afterwards, aren't they?
Yes, exactly. If I don't write things down immediately, they quickly start to lose their sharp edges/flavour, and also, there's no room in my head to come up with other things, because I'm too busy Actively Remembering. Using a recording app is a great idea.

Date: 2022-07-01 10:59 am (UTC)I suddenly got inspired today and wrote 1370 words to finish a fic for a looming Venom challenge. Unfortunately, it ended up being in a different fandom as I thought it'd be a crossover but it's really not. Hopefully, some accompanying art will save the day.

Date: 2022-07-01 05:20 pm (UTC)I have a few things on the go at the moment. There's my Flight of the Heron/White Cockades crossover WIP, which has a few thousand more words to go; then I've got one mostly-finished fic for
Day 1: 650 words on the speculative second RMSE fic.

Date: 2022-07-02 01:12 am (UTC)It sounds like you have doable and also stretch goals for the month--that's fantastic! Do let us know how we can encourage you.
YAY for your Day 1 words! YAY!

Date: 2022-07-01 07:11 pm (UTC)I'm still working at getting some of my older fics tidied up and posted, it's going quite well.
July 1st - 593 words, a 500 word challenge ficlet and editing on a fic that's now posted. Yay!
(no subject)
Date: 2022-07-02 01:13 am (UTC)YAY for keeping with your posting schedule. That is SO impressive! And, of course, YAY for so many words! It's comforting to know that even though the world is *gestures at everything*, you will be out there being consistently productive. (No pressure, though, not ever.)

Date: 2022-07-01 09:45 pm (UTC)I am on a fannish trip until the 6th or so, and I don't expect to write much until I get home. But I will be doing and receiving beta-reading in person, which is great!
Goals for the month: finish a short fic (maximum 5000 words) which I started while traveling, and then get back to work on my longfic WIP and hopefully get it to 60K.

Date: 2022-07-02 01:14 am (UTC)AND YOUR TRIP SOUND SO AMAZING!
I've been enjoying your trip reports but have been terrible about responding. I'm sorry to be a lurker, but please know that I am thoroughly enjoying your every enthusiastic observation, even the ones about lichen! *grins*
Good luck with your goals for July!

Date: 2022-07-01 10:07 pm (UTC)For the 1st, I only have a small snippet, essentially an alibi paragraph, but then I didn't actually try for more. (Totally wiped this week; the weather's getting to me.) I'm going to make a proper attempt tomorrow - fingers crossed!
(no subject)
Date: 2022-07-02 01:15 am (UTC)I hope the weather improves for you and that you find your muse where/when you need it. But hey, words are words, right? And you made them! :-)
(no subject)
Date: 2022-07-04 01:56 pm (UTC)I hear you on the weather, too - from 9°C at night to 31°C at day in 24 hours is just plain exhausting.

Date: 2022-07-02 02:11 am (UTC)Things I'm up to this month!
- Finishing QZGS minibang
- Exchange fic (multiple)
-
- some things just for fun :)
Day 1: A paragraph of a fic I hadn't touched in six months xD past me left a nice outline, and the emotional thrust of the fic is easy for me to hold on to across that time, at least!
(no subject)
Date: 2022-07-02 11:30 pm (UTC)Your goals sound amazing--and I'm so glad you're leaving room for fun as well. I wish you joy of ALL the writing!
And thank you so much for the kind words. The story idea came to be because I had one of those weird brain moments in which I put two different titles together (in this case a band name and a song name) and then got the ol' "What if?" It's a trip that I'm enjoying being on!

Date: 2022-07-02 04:19 am (UTC)Jul 1: 560 words, unsticking myself from the scene I've been stuck on for most of the week. We'll see if I can finish it tomorrow, and if I can then build a pathway from the new version of this scene to the old material that followed it.
Goals for July: I'm halfway through revising "Hornblower's Lost Honour" -- I'd like to finish this revision pass, and maybe also finish the draft. I've so far made two attempts at the epilogue, totaling 10K between them, and wasn't happy with either of them. The hope/plan was that in making a revision pass, I might come up with a firmer idea of what the epilogue needs to do, but we'll see how it goes.
(no subject)
Date: 2022-07-02 11:32 pm (UTC)Oh, good luck with the unstickening! It sounds like you've made excellent progress toward that end so far. Also, YAY for more Hornblower fic!

Date: 2022-07-02 11:35 pm (UTC)Pro-rate is short for "professional rate," meaning, typically, between .05 cents and .08 cents per word. The designation is significant mostly (for me) because in order to qualify for membership in the SFWA, my goal, I need to publish three (I think) stories in recognized pro-rate magazines/publications. That's what I've been attempting to achieve for this last while.

Date: 2022-07-02 09:22 am (UTC)My plans for the month are to work on my Tolkien Reverse Summer Bang piece, do the July challenges for Fan Flashworks, Tolkien Short Fan Works and the Silmarillion Writer's Guild.
Thank you for hosting again!
