ysilme here: 686 words for a blog entry.
sylvanwitch here: Today, I found an open call for magical realism short stories on the theme of women's transformations, and a story came to me all in one push, 1347 words and done. I've already edited it once, but I'm going to let it sit for a day or two before submitting it. I have found recently that if I find a prompt that speaks to me, the words really flow, and I have little trouble sticking the landing, which has been a problem for me for the past two years or more. I think part of the recent change has to do with the fact that I'm writing a novel, so taking a break to "cheat" with a short story feels transgressive or something. You know how if you have cleaning to do, you just have to find a chore you like *less* than cleaning, and suddenly you'll procrastinate that chore by doing the cleaning? It's something like that. Anyway, I'm going to stop examining the oral hygiene of this particular gift horse and just say: YAY! That felt really great!
