Day 2: [personal profile] china_shop, [profile] phrenk

Let us know if we missed you or if you didn't check in for a while, so we can add you. Of course joining the fun is possible at any point.

~ ~ ~

[personal profile] ysilme here: Nearly 1k yesterday for a lore idea I had for my WIP yesterday. Decided today to make a separate fic out of it and shifted things around for it, but added only 11 new words to it.

[personal profile] sylvanwitch here: 430 words to finish out the first draft of the latest story. I didn't think I'd manage it because I spent most of the afternoon grading handwritten exam essays (36 down, 26 to go), but I'm glad I opened the doc to look at it; the last half of the final scene came to me quite organically. It always feels special when that happens.

June 2nd - 1100 words. Hard to concentrate on any one thing for long so I wrote 11 Doctor Who drabbles. Little snippets are sometimes easier than trying to keep a longer idea going.

I LOVE that you're making such beautiful word counts on drabbles--that's awesome! I'm only sorry for the *reason* you haven't the focus for longer works. Truly, I hope you feel better soon. *hugs*

Thank you! I hope to work on something a bit longer today, I have challenges to write for that I prefer to write something more substantial for. Just have to see if my brain will cooperate.

I continued working on my outline today, expanding on some of the key points of the plot and on some related worldbuilding. Oh, and on the characters' superpowers. I've got some cool images for those in my head, like one of them being able to turn his body into a vaguely human-shaped ball of lightning for a few seconds; now I have to probably come up with some logic behind how it works and all that. Or at least, what cool effects can be achieved with that ability, besides some obvious combat stuff.

*grins* I love the idea of having a human generator, basically--that seems an eminently useful superpower! (Yes, cool and lethal, too, but also practical in small doses, maybe? Or maybe I'm not picturing this right.) Anyway, I'm so glad you're having fun with the worldbuilding. This is the BEST part! Yay!

Plotting is definitely the best part! I love this stage when you can just come up with things and look for the most fun way to put them together. And yes, a "human generator" is kind of the direction I'm going in, with a bit of tweaking of that power. I like the idea of superheroes being not just destructive against villains/criminals, but also helpful to the people they're protecting, in non-violent way. So I'm having this vague idea for a villain (or maybe just a natural disaster) causing a power outage at a hospital, and the hero staying there until everything's fixed using their power to keep all the life-saving equipment running.

Ugh, editing, I hear you! (Just came off two+ weeks of editing the same 10K story twice.) That's a fantastic word count, as it represents a TON of editing work, I know. Go, you!

the only reason I can hazard a guess about wordcount at all is that I keep commenting to people when I tip over the next thousand-word-mark. xD; I'm enjoying the editing! it's just. a lot. <3

(congrats on getting through that editing! that's a lot!)

Day 2: Followed day one's strategy of typing up previous (ie day one's) writing before picking up a pen to write more. Another page and a half longhand. I also received the three different notebooks I ordered from the office supply store and spent some time playing with them.

I have a leather notebook sleeve that I bought almost two decades ago. It came with a notebook at the time, but they don't make the exact size of notebook anymore, which means that I'm forever looking for a notebook that is not too big to fit but will also not slide out of one side of it when I am writing with it propped up on my knee. All three of the notebooks I bought are the same page size but they're all bound differently. One is too big, the others look like they'll be prone to sliding out, although less than the current notebook. I guess I'll be trying again when those two are full.

I always tell myself I'm going to use the notebooks I buy, and I do, for a little while, and then I abandon them. My workroom has a shelf to which the busted hopes of said notebooks go to die. ;-)

YAY for finding a process that inspires you to write more words and good luck finding a notebook that is Just the Right Size. :-)

*hugs to you both*

3rd: added 257 words while revising my [community profile] intoabar fic (I was trying to make it shorter, but oh well), and sent it to beta. Then I surprised myself by writing a late treat for the Multifandom Drabble Exchange (about 341 words, whittled down to 300), which is also now at beta. And I reviewed canon and made some notes for a treat for another exchange. It all feels very productive, but what I haven't done today is pushed past the place I'm stuck in one of my WIPs. Maybe I'll try to add a paragraph or two now, just so I'm not in the same stuck place tomorrow.

Good wordcount both of you!

I have edited chapter 9 of my poly fic, and added 300 words to the short fic I'm working on. It's been months since I wrote these chapters of the poly fic, and I'm just amazed by how well I like it, even with my editing glasses on! I mean, no surprise really, because I wrote it to please myself. But it's a great feeling.
