ysilme here: I'm sorry I didn't manage to react to anything/ any of you in the last few days, but I'm literally only online to do the tally entry, and for a little bit of writing in the mornings, producing 279 words today. Writing buddy and I have spent most of the day with plotting and talkig fic, while also visting another historic museum mainly for the purposes of research and inspiration, which both also happened in spades. I hope I can catch up once I'm back home next week!

It's been a great visit, also in regards for inspiration. I love to write a lot of background and lore in my fics, and if possible flesh them out with details I'll learn about on such visits.

I rather enjoy tightening up and focusing the language! Making it say what I meant to say -- or would have meant to say had I properly understood the story at the time! -- instead of whatever garble I grabbed in the heat of the moment. Especially since I don't make myself do One Heroic Editing Pass, but more fix things as they seem off, in little bits and bobs, when I happen to be looking at it.

Of course the danger is that I do endless fine-tuning instead of composing new words -- which is the problem I'm having now! But I haven't finished my canon review yet, so I'm a little stuck for new words to write!

...but did I spend yesterday on canon review? No, I did not. I spent the day re-reading a comfort read.

Let me applaud you for comfort reading when you need it rather than pushing to do any other thing. I grew up being taught to feel guilty for anything perceived as "lazy" or "not useful," and I am still unlearning that response to taking pleasure in NOT doing a task, even though it's on my list, mental or otherwise. So, anyway, I am impressed by BOTH your editing savvy AND your comfort reading. :-)

This is so true! I have the same problem, and every bit where I manage to just be and relax is hard-fought-for. I read a semi-scientific article the other day about just this, with the gist that our brain and psyche needs to relax and unwind doing these "lazy" or "not useful" things to stay healthy.
