[personal profile] ysilme here: Sorry that my snowflake-related comment yesterday came without line breaks; I wrote it in my text editor and forgot to put in the tags. ^^ I can add 622 words to my tally, partly non-fic and partly working at my challenge assignment - although I'm still at the note-taking stage.

[personal profile] sylvanwitch here: Tonight, I edited and posted my Magnum P.I. (2018) story. That means I may have to actually work on original stuff tomorrow. Or... ;-)

Another alibi sentence, and also realized that the scene I wanted to tweak next no longer exists in the current draft (one of my POV characters argues with the eventual antagonist a lot, so what was originally the first argument got entirely rewritten but now I want a lot of it back as a new second argument so we're up to three verbal arguments before the confrontation where the antagonist loses the plot and stabs her) so I copied it from an earlier draft into the "new parts" document in preparation for poking at it hopefully tomorrow.

I can't speak for everyone, but any time I think about a story and then act on the thoughts, no matter how few "new" words result, I count it as writing. It's all in service of making progress on a story; it all serves the narrative. (We all serve the narrative. It rather makes us sound like feudal vassals. There are...intriguing parallels. [It's also possible I've just watched too much The Witcher].)

Oh yeah, I've checked in with research and such before but this was just a "oh I should see if I can make my alibi sentence part of that next scene... where IS that next scene... oh right." And then opened an early October draft and grabbed it, so it wasn't more than like, 30s.

I do have ridiculous standards for myself. Sometimes when I see a scene in my head and it plays on a loop by the time I get to write the scene, it falls flat in my eyes

[personal profile] ysilme -- I agree with your reasoning on community promotion. And good luck with your challenge assignment! <3

[profile] sylvanwitch__ woohoo! Congrats on finishing and posting your story! \o/

As for me:

7th: Wrote a few lines of dialogue in my notebook, and started reading through my time travel fic notes.

8th: Read he rest of my notes and made some more. I really need to sit down and actually work on it, but instead I just keep making endless endless notes, and I don't know if I can slot them together.

Endless notes...that's a song I'm familiar with. The more of them you write, the more daunting it feels to sit down and put them together, right? I wish you luck with that! :-)

Another similar amount of writing for the ambush project, yay. I also managed to do my Chocolate Box sign-up, though I didn't yet manage to finish the letter. I did actually write prompts into all my requests, though, so maybe I should just be less ambitious about my Dear Author letters. All I really want to add is pulling together a general likes list - I've got plenty of them in my old sign-ups, though, but somehow I'm again not satisfied with them, so I'll have to edit a bit, I guess. Maybe a good thing I'm not planning to sign up for any other exchanges soon...

I love that you put so much thought into your Dear Author letters. I'm not an exchange participant, but I do read the letters sometimes, and I always enjoy the ones that are clear in their fondest wishes for a gift. I hope you get exactly what you'd most enjoy reading. :-)

Also, yay for words on the ambush project!

I hope my authors appreciate them as well! I always worry I flood them with too many things and sound annoying or excessive - but then, if I only write a few sentences, I always feel compelled to write more. I think it's at least partly because I myself write a lot better with prompts and details to go on from, to the extent that I feel stumped if I don't get any in my request. So I try to provide suggestions and info about my likes for those writers who, like me, feel better when they get those. I try to always emphasize they're just suggestions and the author doesn't need to use them. I do usually get lovely stories, though, so I guess it works!

Day 7 - 1100 words (eep, nearly had an extra zero in there by accident. I don't write THAT fast, lol!) Anyway, one 500 word ficlet and three double drabbles.

I'll be working on WiPs for day 8, see if I can get anything finished.

Worked on the nonfiction project. I was going to write a little bit of fiction, even just an alibi sentence, but fell asleep in my chair and woke up at 2:00 a.m.! Sheesh. Couldn't write an alibi sentence then, because my eyelids were glued together. 8-/

My schedule is so weird these days, but I'm going to have to make some time to write earlier in the day.

I definitely relate to having evenings when fighting off exhaustion long enough to write down a few words is a Herculean effort. I wish you more energy moving forward. :-)
