[personal profile] ysilme here: 230 words while editing another part of the WIP. Today's quote choice and image are by me; I made them a few years ago already, one of my favourite ever writing quotes.

[personal profile] sylvanwitch here: I researched more submissions venues today and found a themed call that might work for a story I have only in its first draft and which is 2000 words too long for the publication. So, I spent considerable time editing it today, getting 3/4s of the way through it and cutting out more than 1000 words. I don't know if I'll find more words to cut, but as this is only my first pass edit, I may very well do so. The deadline is Monday, however, so I have my work cut out for me, no pun intended.

July 7th - 514 words, a 500 word challenge ficlet and a smidge of editing on two ficlets.

Also wrestled down three more massive rose branches and chopped them up.

Thanks! With luck I'll be wrestling the rose again tomorrow, still another 6 or 7 branches to pull down, but progress is being made.

Would it be possible to put the writing quotes in plaintext either above or below the image? A lot of the time I need to squint at the image to see the quote properly (due to the contrast between text+background not always being great, among other things), and I've got pretty good eyesight. ^^;

[personal profile] ysilme - Don't you love when editing adds words? xD Nice work! :D And it is a good quote, too; I love Carl Sagan. <3

[personal profile] sylvanwitch - Oh wow, that's a lot of editing! Nice job with the cutting so far, and good luck with the oncoming deadline! <3

Thank you!
About the quote/image and readability: I'm using DW for image hosting for the first time, and the descripiton of the image which also contains the quote doesn't seem to appear when acutally using the image, although I've got no idea why/for what purpose the description then is intended; I'm rather going to put them in the alt-part of the image from now on for accessibility reasons.
However, isn't clicking on the image working for you? The images in the entries are just thumbnails as I don't want to spam people's reading lists with larger images. I forget to put in the link of such an image on occasion but I just checked and all seem to work; and even then right-clicking should bring you to the original size.

Edit: I just tested something and realised onyl now that the alt-text of images isn't displayed when hovering over the image. It used to be for HTML code, although how long ago I can't say as I didn't pay attention to the resut for a long time. ;op
I'll put the quote also in the entry text if you can't access the original image size.

...it simply does not occur to me to click on the images? They're a size that seems like they could be full-sized images? xD; I see the disconnect between my thinking and yours!

*g*TBH I'd click on any image if I have difficulties discerning it, which is often the case as I'm visually impaired. ^^ Are you good with clicking on the images or would you still prefer having the quote in writing?

xD It's easier for me to initially parse that there are quotes on the images if they're also present in plaintext, tbh. Like, once I realise that there's a quote, I can read it? I just... don't notice most of the time. ^^

That's a good quote. It's just stunning to me that someone can write a bunch of words in a book, and I, years later, can pick up the book and find out a ton of thoughts this stranger I'll never meet had. I can do it even after they're dead. Truly mind-blowing.

[personal profile] ysilme: Hurrah, words!

[personal profile] sylvanwitch: Ouch, 2000 words is a lot to cut. Good job on the first 1K, and wishing you the best on finding another 1K!

It *IS* mindblowing, and it's the chief reason I pursued the PhD and then became an English teacher--I love the (sometimes hazardous) intersections of an author's life and their work. I love grounding literature in its time and place (and also acknowledge the value in cutting it free of those constraining variables). Anyway, I'm rambling, but this is to say THIS, SO MUCH!

Thank you for the good luck--I'm going to need it!

And YAY for editing! YAY!
