ysilme here: today, a new character introduced himself, desiring to become part of my Valleyverse headcanon. He's quite insistent, so I made him welcome and started to write his back-story. I had to stop at 600ish words as I also have several kilos of peaches demanding my attention, but that's a neat result for a preservation day.

sylvanwitch here: 256 words and a strong sense of an ending on the alibi story for me today.

I think I'm satisfied with them, some were for my current fandom obsession. I'm feeling my way with the characters by writing drabblish bits.

Yay for a great word count for you, that's awesome!
And thank you! And peaches indeed! :o) My parents have two (or three?) trees with white peaches who usually bear an abundance of fruit. We're also having an offspring of it, but it's not old enough yet. I used to make jam and compote, but these days I'm only freezing them in thin slices, without any de-skinning or other preparation, and we use them in our overnight oats as they are, letting them thaw overnight. That works surprisingly well with the fruit keeping all its aroma without turning brown, and the skin also gets so soft it's not worth the bother to removing it before freezing. Yesterday I prepared two large baking sheets full to the brim with slices, and have at least as many peaches left over for the next round. The baking sheets fit perfectly in my freezer and I can then put the slices in bags to take them out as I want to.

How awesome that your alibi story got that far, and is about to be done! Congratulations! *\O/*
And yum indeed. These days I'm only freezing them in small slices for our overnight oats - thawing them in the oats works great, giving all the aroma without having browning fruit. I even have two bags from last year left over and am going to make a quick, unsweetened compote from them, to be frozen in ice-tray cubes for yoghurt, skyr and quark.

I freeze lemon and lime slices for use in cold drinks, but it had never occurred to me to just slice up peaches and freeze them to put in oatmeal, which is a staple of my cold-seasons diet! Thanks for sharing your brilliance with me!

Thanks in return - to me it never occured to freeze lemon slices for this reason! *g* I don't use them often in drinks, mostly during summer when making infused water with herbs and cucumber, and use lemon or lime juice since I only buy organic citrus fruit from Southern Europe and they're only in season during the winter and early spring.
For the peaches, you don't even need to peel them if you don't mind the peel, even the sturdier peel of the white peaches I've got as this gets softer by freezing.

Yay for an alibi sentence! I've had months of bad writing times when daily alibi sentences just barely kept me going - but they did, instead of throwing me out of writing altogether, so they always served their purpose well for me. I hope they do for you, too, and for tomorrow being a better writing day! :o)

Day 26: A little over 400 words of free-writing, the kind where you write to find out what you think. Turns out what I was thinking is that I really, really want to like Stephen Graham Jones -- he's fantastic -- but I'm squeamish about horror. My Heart is a Chainsaw came into the bookshop in trade and I brought it home. I read a bit, go EEEEEEYAAUGH and put it down and run away. Maybe I'll get through it, maybe I'll chicken out. We'll see.

Ysilme: Peaches! Our harvest was a month or so ago. Now it's figs. A lot of work, but yum!

Sylvanwitch: It's so cool that your "alibi" story has turned into a real one! 8-)

I'm very happy with it; it's an unexpected little delight!

And I totally get what you're saying about horror. I sometimes buy a book thinking this is the time I'll get into it, and then I'll try it and realize that my stomach for particular kinds of horror just isn't strong enough. That said, I can recommend any horror written by T. Kingfisher. It is absolutely terrifying stuff, but it's also very humane and human, if that makes any sense. Her protagonists are uniformly awesome.

The summer has been abysmal for fruits and veggies, hence the very late peach harvest. The figs, usually also a mid-July harvest, still have weeks to go - they might not ripen at all this year. But we don't do anyhting with them anyway; they're not very aromatic and since nobody hereabout cares for fig jam or chutney I only made that once. I love figs in theory but not the taste of these, so the majority on our two trees are left fopr the insects and birds. What are you doing with figs?

Thanks, the character is a really interesting and sweet guy and telling me a lot of backstory currently. ^^ The peaches get frozen in slices for our overnight oats, and will make a lovely change in winter. Since I found out how easy it is to freeze fruit for our oats without much preparation - just cut them in small enough pieces or slices, freeze them on trays and put them in bags or containers once frozen - we have a lovely variety of self-raised and gifted fruit all year long: peaches, apricots, various berries, pears, and plums. I'm also having rhubarb and still a few quinces left (the old tree died two years ago, and its successor will need a few years before bearing fruit), but those I need to cook, but I found both fruit work really well also completely sugar-free. I just can them in very small mason jar, or freeze ice-cube trays with the purreed compote for yoghurts and skyr. (Now I'm getting breakfast cravings *g* )

Yay, that's a great word count for today! But if it feels like writing for you, it's perfectly fine to also report research as writing, even more so if you took some notes. Some of us just jot down an alibi sentence on such days so it feels more "written", but it's really up to you what you'll count as writing. And, of course, also perfectly fine to not count research as writing in the WED sense! ^^
