ysilme here: it seems to become a pattern for me this month that I write a little bit during the day, and a larger chunk after posting the daily tally - it's been just the same today. ;o) But writing is happening, which is what counts.

sylvanwitch here: I'm disappointed to report that the story I wrote this week and submitted yesterday has already been rejected. In the spirit of beginning as I mean to go on, however, I submitted a different story to a different magazine a few minutes ago. I figure if I keep putting stuff out there, eventually it'll find a home. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the story that I just wrote--it's sort of very venue-specific--but that's a problem for another day.

June 6th - 1145 words, a challenge fic, a double drabble for another challenge, and a teeny bit of editing. Now I'm going to take my sore throat off to bed. Maybe a good night's sleep will help.

Day 6: Getting back into writing a fic I've remembered how much I love, and also some contemplation of the next round of exchange fics I gotta write.

7th: 692 words on my WIP (more than my goal of 500), and I polished and posted an original flashfic snippet for fan_flashworks.

Day 6: typed up yesterday's work and rambled on for about two pages until I realized that with some editing of the existing next part I had finally gotten to a part where I could get the two to connect. Which means tomorrow might be more reading and editing than writing - we'll see. It's all so rough regardless so I might leave that bit of editing as part of the quick sand job for basic coherency that I'll need to do for the whole section before I send it off to the cheerleaders

It sounds like you are doing slow, methodical foundation work, and that’s awesome! Yay!

ysilme: so long as you have a pattern that works, that's the important thing!

sylvanwitch: Good for you for sending another piece out straight away. I don't know if this helps, but back when I wrote origfic, I set myself the goal of accumulating a certain number of rejections in a year: it made each one sting a little less, to think of them as just part of the process of getting things out there. Best of luck with the new story, and I'm sure you will eventually figure out something for the other!

That does help—thank you! This wasn’t my first rejection, of course, but I think I’m feeling it a little more keenly because I wrote the story specifically for this magazine, which I have been a part of as one of many crowdfunders. Not that that entitles me to anything! It’s just that I wanted to be a part of a cool project the birth of which I witnessed. Anyway, thank you for the good advice; it’s much appreciated!

What fandom is your fake marriage story in? *curious*

Hornblower! It's an AU of the novel in which they were captured and had to escape across France. In my version, a very important element of their escape plan is pretending to be newly wedded to each other -- after all, while Continental officers marry each other with Theban enthusiasm, everyone knows that English officers are far too uptight and judgemental for that.

(Yes, I made gay marriage a thing in Napoleonic France. Why should the writers of modern AUs get to have all the fun?)

That sounds like great fun! Still don't know the fandom, but I would definitely be tempted to read it anyway. *g*

And sodomy was decriminalized in France during the revolution in 1791, at least--but obviously that's not the same thing as gay marriage.

Heh, that was one of the things I used to justify the worldbuilding in this AU (as if it needs any justification beyond "Sang wanted to") -- all through the nineteenth century, France was more laid back about homosexuality than England was.

It's been a lot of fun to write! So far it's 17K or so, and I'm probably about half done? We'll see how it goes.

Anyway, it's a lot of fun to tweak historical settings in this way, I think--you change one thing, and think about what consequences that would have. I have plans to someday write a sedoretu AU in 18th century Britain--that would entail socially sanctioned m/m and f/f relationships as well as m/f, but also various other changes, like thinking about how inheritance would work with a foursome marriage.

Hope you're still having fun with the writing!

Yes, that can be very fun! I don't know how much this story is going to get into cascading effects of this one worldbuilding decision -- right now, the scope of the story is pretty narrow. But we'll see what crops up as I go on.

Day 6: finished up with my draft with a net 222 words added to it and got it posted, finally, if only to stop fiddling with it! Also switched gears and worked on yet another, different WIP because I can't be bothered to deal with plot right now and this one is all feelings, and wrote 446 words of that.

I'm also adding 326 words for my own tally. I'm still "butterflying" between various WIPs and drafts, but I'm slowly improving in the focusing-on-something department.

Belated day 6 check-in for me: I was too tired to do anything productive, so I remembered the concept of alibi sentence and decided to write one for the worldbuilding part of my project. It actually turned into several sentences, so that's a win.

I'm finally feeling more energized today, so I hope to achieve some writing progress in the evening of day 7.

Day 6 involved continuing to noodle on the new assignment, looking for the way in for one character to make tentative overtures to someone who looks like she's fairly solidly established in her community.
