sylvanwitch here: Long day punctuated by family drama and my laptop being recalcitrant, but eventually, I integrated the last two bits of the ghost story that I’d written at work and then smoothed out the seams. I’m going to do my first full read-through and edit tomorrow. Also, I forgot to mention that I got another story rejection on Tuesday. I have three more stories still out for consideration. We’ll see.

ysilme's response to my comment from yesterday popped up in my inbox just as I was deciding whether I was going to pack it in or stay up some more and write, and I cannot lie, just getting that little reminder that other people do in fact track when I check in pushed me off the fence onto the "I will write something" side. In case you wonder if responding to check-ins helps, it really does.

So, Day 25, another page longhand and we're just about at the part where this scene will dovetale with the actual narrative and Perrin and Phillip will go interact with a POV character. (And then things get Exciting... except I also have stuff that happens before this to write yet because apparently I don't have brownies in the house that will write for me while I sleep.)

March 25: wrote a drabble; it’s been a while since I started and finished in the same day.

Ah, thank you. The family stuff is just...ongoing, and will unfortunately not be resolved until someone dies. (That sounds harsh, but it's just reality, alas.) The laptop is...frustrating. When I'm a little more solvent, I'm going to invest in a new one. Until then, there will be cursing. *grins* The rejection is par for the course, and I'll admit to some magical thinking because all these famous authors talk about papering a room with rejections before they were finally published, so if I only wrack up enough rejections, I should automatically be successful, right? Lol!

Anyway, tl;dr, your kind encouragement is much appreciated.

YAY for completing a drabble in a day--that's marvelous! Go, you! May the momentum continue if that's what you'd like for yourself. :-)

Cheers to you for that achievement! *\O/* I can totally relate, too. I've had phases when writing drabbles was super easy and I could easily manage several in one day, often enough also getting to the exact word count without any problems. But most times now, it's not easy to write one, let alone finish in one setting.

sylvanwitch: Well done pulling it together, especially in the face of so many obstacles? And may I congratulate you on the rejection, or is that weird? Back when I wrote origfic, I had a personal goal of a dozen rejections a year (as a way of making me get my work out there), and now they feel like a thing to congratulate people on: acquiring a rejection is a significant amount of work!

Thank you so much! I just said upthread that I have an almost magical thinking process going on with rejections. So many famous authors talk about papering a room with rejections that it almost seems like correlation = causation. If only I get enough rejections, I'll reach some tipping point, after which I am golden! Lol! I know that's NOT how it actually works, but I'll admit it makes me feel better to think so. Also, like you, I do recognize rejections as a sign that I am putting in the necessary work of submitting stories for consideration and should, therefore, keep doing so. So, thank you again, so much! :-)

Also, go you for keeping your hand in with an alibi sentence! In the midst of so much *waves at world at large*, any words are a triumph!

Yes! I know exactly what you mean. And I don't think it's entirely magical -- you really do have to put your work out there, and keep putting your work out there, to get it published. Counting each of your rejections as progress toward that goal makes good sense -- and it takes some of the sting out of the things, which is only to the good.

Thank you, it is! This one is actually the extended edition of a fic I wrote, with all the extra bits put in I wanted to have but which wouldn't have worked for the published fics, or I didn't have the energy to convert into proper narrative and not just my draft-style writing I'm often using for drawer fic. ;o)
