ysilme here: I ended up with 685 words yesterday for the new drawer Christmas fic and one of my very old WIPs, more than I'd expected it to be! Today I have 643 words so far; writing went well as I was procrastinating from the deep-cleaning and baking which I was doing today. *g* But I also have a mostly cleaned house and some baked goods for tomorrow, so I'm quite satisfied! (We're going to have my mother-in-law over for a pre-Christmas celebration before she goes to hospital, thankfully this is still allowed despite the lockdown.)

sylvanwitch here: It was a gloriously lazy day, during which I spent into the early afternoon finishing a delightful mystery novel (Louise Penny's Still Life, the first Chief Inspector Gamache novel) and then procrastinated my daily words by playing brain games. Still, I did add 1069 words to the novel and also spent a good bit of time going back through to adjust two things that had been irritating me for chapters now (I had failed to name a minor character who became important later, and I had failed to identify a minor character at all, though I'd mentioned her in passing. Oops!). I also composed this year's poem for our holiday cards, which I'm hoping to get to tomorrow. And I made some pretty spectacular pineapple muffins to use up some fresh pineapple that had been about to turn. Mmmmm.

Today was mostly a chill day, but I did a full edit on an exchange fic that'll reveal while I'm asleep. I caught one egregious typo, tightened some paragraphs, and ended up with ~80 more words than I'd started with.

Excellent editing work! I don't know how you find it, but for me, editing always feels like I'm both doing SO MUCH work and also not enough because I can't "count" the words. I know intellectually that the editing process is vital for a better story, but emotionally, it never satisfies me as much as adding words. So, again: GO, YOU! Your editing self rocks!

13th: I worked on my Yuletide treat today, in that I pruned a little and added at least an alibi sentence. Um.

Words are words, my friend, and you're usually full of them! Besides, pruning and adding a bit here or there is hard work. (I find it annoying hard work, too!)

Day 12: 1515 words and more brainstorming.

sylvanwitch: I enjoyed the Chief Inspector Gamache novels so much. I've fallen behind on the newer ones, but I think of the earlier ones a lot. Some scenes and details are so vivid to me, even years after reading them.

I am just enthralled, totally! The details are exactly what make it for me--so vivid and powerful and so very *human* in the way she writes the characters, even the minor ones. It's just an immersive and thoroughly enjoyable reading experience. I can hardly wait for the next two to arrive, so I can keep reading!

Yes, immersive! That's an excellent description! The details, the characters, the emotional arcs for the recurring characters -- all of it just a wonderful read. I learned not to start reading one of her books on a weeknight, because I would stay up overnight reading it. I had to save them for weekends when I could read all day. :)

Day 12 - 250 words, a double drabble in an old fandom for Fan Flashworks (though I may still do the piece that goes with the poem from yesterday as well), and half a Silm drabble.

Day 12: three pages longhand covering parts of two conversations that fix plotholes that I've been wondering about for ages (well, one fix and one beginning of a fix which may or may not need more background information later). Neither of them are parts I'm supposed to be working on just now, but there you have it.

Well, that sounds familiar. I don't know if this is true of you, but for me, if I'm dragging my heels on a particular chore (or part of something I'm writing), I suddenly find motivation to work on OTHER things I'd been dragging my heels on, except they are now somehow MORE attractive than whatever it is I'm not working on at the moment. Lol! So, this is to say, GO YOU for working on the sticky bits!

sylvanwitch: Oo, fixing things that had been bothering you -- that's such a satisfying feeling. And a thousand new words, AND a poem, AND muffins!


Check-in: Transcribed a hundred words or so, then wrote 1200 new words. Still have two pages of transcription to do from the week, but I can do those tomorrow maybe.

Yes, it was a very productive Saturday, despite also being lazy. Those are the best kind of days, in my opinion.

Excellent progress both in the transcribing (so necessary, I'd imagine, to actually completing the work) and on the new words! YAY!

Oh look I'm not the only one who fails to give minor characters names...I just use placeholders.

I wrote 648 words on 2 fandom tree stories, finishing one + 3210 words on a holiday story

Lol! Yeah, he ended up being referred to as "the creepy man" for, like, twelve chapters, and then I said, Yeah, okay, he needs an actual name. I also have places along the way with [NAME] in there instead of, you know, an actual name. Lol!

Day 12: 303 nano words. Writing very few words a day means I've been writing the same scene for ages, and there's still a fair amount of it to go. Maybe I should make my December goal just getting to the next scene. :D

Your goal may be whatever you'd like, and given what you've said, that seems a fair goal to me! I hope you find your way happily to the end of this scene you're working on. :-)

Ooh, muffins! I've never come across pineapple muffins and haven't thought about putting them into muffins, but I love being experimental with baking, so yay! And well done Ysilme for cleaning the house, I've still got waaaay to go with that (though I've only got a flat, not a house, but anyway).

I've been tired and stressed lately with upcoming study deadlines, so I haven't written a lot per day, but I've still kept going with the novel, even if it's mostly been 100-200 words per day. So checking in for days 9-12! I'm currently working on a scene which is crucial to the plot but which I clearly haven't thought out well enough in advance, and have been trying to puzzle out both the logic and the logistics of how things happen so that I can get onward... That's taking it's time.

Also some canon review for Yuletide! I really have to start working on that fic soon...

I applaud you for keeping your hand in with the novel despite the time crunch of studying and the inevitable holiday stresses, too. I'm so glad to hear you're working at it, and I'm sending you lots of energy and focus for it too!

So the ficlet is something I wanted to get out of my head before Yuletide, because it's a tiny fandom I requested there and I wanted to write it before potentially seeing someone else's vision of the characters. There are no fics for it yet on AO3. But would it be weird to post it now? I mean, it might potentially make my writer feel weird, if they're writing that fandom for me... *hesitates over fandom etiquette*

Ugh, I am not the one to ask about fandom etiquette as whenever I encounter such a question, I dither and then make some impulsive decision and then worry that I've done something wrong. ;-) I guess my instinct in the case you've described is to hold off, maybe, if only because as the only story in the fandom, it would stand out to your writer? But I can also totally understand the desire to have your story out there for people to read and share. Yeah, so there's an example of my dithering habit. Lol! Not helpful, eh?

Anyway, congrats on the great word count, and good luck with whatever you decide!

This does sound like a lot of creative baking and writing - well done, both! Plus, a clean house, MIL hosting duties, and holiday card poems? You guys are totally impressive!

(On the domestic front I finally sorted through the massive pile of mail that has been fomenting for a fortnight, which is much much less impressive, and Hub did half of it +facepalm)

I finally hit my stride with the Yule treatfic, and I'm done at 6,050 words! Probably one of the least anon fic I've ever written, heh. For all that it was initially like pulling teeth, I'm actually really pleased with the results. Now for the slog of editing and beta!

As for the mail-sorting, I think we all have those chores that we just...don't want to do? And we put it off until it becomes even MORE onerous, and the resentment towards having to do this thing you don't want to do builds, and... Yeah, that's miserable. So congratulations, too, for sorting the mail!
