ysilme here: Day 13: 79 words on the WIP, and I worked out a solution for my issue with this fic: the part I was struggling with was part of the first draft which seemed important back then, but just doesn't fit with the narrative any longer. So I cut it out, letting the chapter end there, and but the rest into an epilogue which works so much better. So another chapter after all, but the end is now really in sight! Edit: After being lured there by

cornerofmadness, I also signed up for round 13 of Hurt/Comfort Bingo, got my card and am now exitedly considering the prompts and story ideas. :oD This is SO GOOD.

sylvanwitch here: Post-adulting today, I wrote 586 words on "The Factory," finishing the climactic scene. I have only the denouement to write, and I should be able to get to that tomorrow. YAY!

14th: 556 words on my WIP. I'm struggling a bit -- I think the case has gone wonky. So my plan for tomorrow is to step back and try to outline what comes next, to get myself closer to being on track. :-)

That sounds nice! I don't have any experience whatsoever with submitting original work/short stories etc.; for one as the only ones I wrote so far were for a given project, but I also don't know if we're even having a similiar publishing/writing culture in Germany. I haven't heard anything similar from those of my writing friends who've attempted or succeeded at getting published. Reading about this with you and others is interesting and educating for me.

Yeah I have no idea how it goes in Germany. I will say there is getting to be a more international feel to publishing (at least Canada/Australia/UK with America)

ysilme: Hooray for solving the thing! And yeah, sometimes you just have to cut things that no longer work in the story. I like to lovingly put them in another document to admire later, or sometimes if I'm especially proud of them (and are not keeping secrets), I'll share them on tumblr so we can all admire it together.

sylvanwitch: Hooray, look at all the progress you're making! And my god, but you have been adulting like a boss! (Do bosses do much adulting? I am unsure. My wife suggests "adulting like a border collie," which at least speaks to the sheer amount of work you've been doing, as well as your dedication to accomplishing it!)

Jul 14: A little time rewriting yesterday's words to make them better (while I stall on actually moving forward until I've thought about it more), and then time this evening spent betaing a friend's story. (Betaing counts, right?)

Betaing absolutely counts! And YAY for rewriting and rethinking! Those are both good things for progress!

As for bosses...my last one spent most of her adulting delegating her own actual job responsibilities to others and then denying responsibility when things didn't work out, so I agree with your wife's suggestion: I'm definitely adulting like a border collie, even if I wish I could be adulting like my last boss. ;-)

Thank you! I love your wording about the cut scenes, admiring is lovely! Usually I'm also keeping such parts, but not this time after most of it'll show up in retrospective in the epilogue. But I really love a concept I've once seen with an author: they created "DVD extras" in their journal as well as added another chapter to their fic with the "deletec scenes". In the "extras" they also talked about things related to the creation of the fic, inspirations, linked to sources, images and even inspiring music. I found this really awesome! Of course, many of us do this or something similar during the process of the writing, to interact with our friends and flisties. I don't know but they might have done the same, of course. But what I found after reading that fic was really intended for any reader to read/see after reading the fic.

Go you for rewriting to give you time to think about your fic, that's an important part of the creation process. Of course betaing counts! Anything we're doing about writing is contributing to our own writing, and has earned its rigthful place among what counts for progress. ♥

Sometimes I've linked from the AO3 story to those deleted scenes and extras I posted to tumblr, but I've never QUITE felt bold enough to put them on AO3 itself. But it would make good sense to do so: it is an archive for a reason, is it not? Readers don't have to engage with it if they don't want. And things that don't get archived have a tendency to end up lost one day...

And yes, it's all grist for the mill and skills for the bank!
