Let us know if we missed you or if you didn't check in for a while, so we can add you. Of course joining the fun is possible at any point.
~ ~ ~
ysilme here: meagre five words so far for me, but I was interrupted in the morning and fell asleep in the afternoon (first day without coughing since two weeks, no surprise there) and haven't yet sat down to my evening session, so I hope for more to come.
sylvanwitch here: 360 on a sequel to the
Magnum fic, prompted by a lovely comment someone left for me. I hadn't thought about doing a series of little fics in this fandom, but the comment led to thoughts, and thoughts led to words, so I guess I'm doing this thing. ;-)

Date: 2020-01-13 11:39 pm (UTC)did post that chapter though
that the comments contain both a lot of people who figured out the things PoV #2 hasn't yet and a lot of people who have no idea what's going on yet, including at least one who is sorta both on account of checking the tags after finishing the chapter, is super reassuring given I spent a couple hours yesterday fretting about what to put in the summary box that wasn't going to spoil the midpoint twist—even though the title and uh the very first freeform tag identify the midpoint twist!

Summary:
"They're right to say you're jealous!" protests Lila, with a sideways glance at Adrien. "You—Marinette, you shouldn't be ashamed of your art! You just need to work harder and stop wanting to be me." That isn't a sweet smile: something about the eyes. "And I'm sure the right person for you is out there somewhere."
Okay, fuck this noise. "Adrien got me to autograph the CD insert of his copy of Jagged Stone's Rock Giant," Marinette says flatly. "Because I am Adrien's very good friend, and he only ever talks to you when you give him no other choice. And I don't know what art medium you actually work in, but if it's figure drawing I bet you're still on stick people. And you have never met Jagged Stone in your life."
Go on. Tell me I'm jealous of you over your art talent. Or over Adrien. Go on, I dare you.
Lila's mouth works soundlessly. For a long silent moment, no one moves. Then Lila bursts into sobs and flees.

Thank you.

Date: 2020-01-14 12:09 am (UTC)also I don't remember being told that (I remember you saying link to photos instead of embedding them, but not don't link to work); is it a community rule or is it something specific to this host?

Date: 2020-01-14 12:19 am (UTC)I'm not sure we have any hard and fast community rules, largely because we are a traveling circus, but in practice, we mostly will refer to having posted something, and sometimes someone will also provide a link to that work too, but we don't see the full header, etc., like you'd post on your own journal or perhaps in other online platforms.
Speaking only for myself, I think this community's focus is different than a fan- or fic-based DW account or a rec community or something like that, where the full header promotions would be appropriate. I feel it's a difference in function and focus, but I don't know as that's been articulated by the community as a whole.
If you'd like, we can just say it's our preference here at

Date: 2020-01-14 01:57 am (UTC)As I wrote above, it's perfectly fine to put in text links to whatever you want to share, including your own work or any kind of photo you want to share. It's also perfectly fine to promote your own work through text links.
I also wouldn’t have said anything if you’d put in two or three lines together with your link or so. But as it is, your comment fills one and a half screens on my notebook, containing apart from a story header including a summary that clearly contains a chunk of the story. Had you asked, I’d answered just that: feel free to post a text link, if necessary with one to three lines of text to keep things short.
This is not a community rule as such as we don't have community rules in that sense; we're unique in our way to be a community insofar as there is no central place like a community journal or website, no admin or moderator, no fixed set of rules. You know the challenge is hosted every month by one of us who participate, and this takes place every time at everybody's personal journal.
I’m on Livejournal and related platforms and now on Dreamwidth since 2007, have been and still am in various fandoms, communities, most but not all fannish, and have been and still am moderator in some of these communities. Everywhere I’ve ever been it’s been regarded common courtesy to not post unsolicited images, video clips, story headers, larger blocks of text or whatnot to personal journals without asking first; and in any community I’ve visited it’s been a requirement to first check posting rules, or else ask a moderator.
It’s different, of course, if people explicitly ask for such posts and content, or if you know them well and know they’re fine with it.
As I also explained before, the reason why I personally don’t want to have content of such size (be it in text/entry lenght or as data/images etc.) on this journal, is a) to keep the tally entries as comfortable and useable for everybody as possible, and b) to keep doing the daily tally as easy as possible for me.
I’m usually checking most of the comments on my phone and later do the tally on my notebook where I don’t have a mouse. Collecting the check-ins and answering at least some comments means a lot of scrolling up and down. The later in the month we get, the more links there are in the tally entry, which make the whole entry even longer (on the phone for example) and containing more data.
Also, everybody visiting this entry and wanting to read up other’s comments and perhaps comment themselves, or engange otherwise in the mutual support we’re doing this for, has to scroll past such long comments, or deal with large entries on mobile devices. It’s simpyl a question of being considerate towards others when interacting with them outside your own space in my honest opinion.
Of course, everybody hosting WED is perfectly free to do as they please in their own journals, and welcome or accept any kind and size of comments in the tally entries, since we don’t have set rules. And if anybody but me is fine with large comments or whatever, that’s perfectly fine for me - elsewhere, I can choose to visit such an entry, or leave it be. Here, I cannot.
