[personal profile] ysilme here: Alibi sentence only for me so far, as I've been AFK all day. I hope I get something done still despite being dead tired.

[personal profile] sylvanwitch here: I have had a TON of work to finish up for the second quarter and in anticipation of the 104 handwritten exam essays coming in tomorrow that I'll need to grade. *sighs* Thankfully, I only needed to brush up the MPI sequel and post it, which I've done. I also got more scenes and notes written during exam proctoring. In this case, it was filling a plot hole I'd left in yesterday's scenes/notes. I think I'm about as ready as I'll ever be to write parts three, four, and five of this unexpected series.

Day 14 - wrote a ficlet on the bus, edited it down to a drabble, sent it to beta and got it back with a bunch of edits I should have known better about. /o\ Ah well, it will be my writing project for today.

Day 15 - a Wednesday. There are too many people in my Wednesdays, which means there were no words.

Oh, dear, re: Wednesdays, but YAY for words on the bus, even if they are words that require editing. (Arguably, all words probably require editing, so don't beat yourself up. :-)

400 words whoo hoo! And on my much-neglected original project.

I'm trying to write friendships that feel real, and my own friends are all absolutely hilarious so I want to steal their brains, but whenever we hang out I can never remember the details later and it feels weird to keep whipping out a notebook. It's a real dilemma.

Yay for words, especially when they're applied to a much-neglected project.

And I know what you mean about not having recall for the details of encounters. I suppose you're right about whipping out a notebook, and recording them secretly is even worse, so...

Anyway, YAY!

I'm feeling somewhat better today and can even think clearly! :) Which translated into about 500 words for my main WIP and 210 more for that short story for the challenge. Which I hope will politely agree to stay a short story, because now that I'm looking at it closely, it's threatening to turn into something... not short.

Gods, it sucks. And HANDWRITTEN. *sighs*. Still, at least I can do it in my comfy clothes with tea at my side. Also, our PD was cancelled for this afternoon, post-my-exam, so that means I can go home even earlier. YAY!

Wow! That's fantastic! I mean, yeah, okay, maybe they aren't the words you're SUPPOSED to be writing, but if they make you happy, I say write 'em!

Day 15 -- 50 or so words on a thing that should work for the fourth SWG January challenge piece, that ties very nicely into one of my Silmarillion continuities, which should be interesting to working and was very satisfying to find unfolding in my head.

Got useful feedback on the other three January challenge pieces, and have put most of the header together for the Love Actually poem that I will post in the next couple of days. The sirens and songstresses piece wants one more going over, plus header, then it will be postable. Hidden figures needs figuring out where it is going, But I think another evening or so of concentration should see that done.

Do need to work out what I'm doing for fan flashworks this round.

Have I mentioned that I love this challenge? Tonight I had no motivation other than the fact that I haven’t missed a day all month. I was facing down a blank page and I managed to put 151 words on it, just so I could write this comment. Not many, but also? So many.

auroracloud: a stack of notebooks, one of them open and with pencil lying on top of it (writing notebooks)
From: [personal profile] auroracloud
I decided to experiment a bit further with my writing - I've mentioned the hopepunk-ish story I'm working on, I've still been in very early stages of it, and I wasn't sure what to write next, but I realized I had a clear idea for how I want it to end, so I started working on that ending scene. And I got nearly 800 words of it. We'll see how this turns out - maybe it'll be easier to figure out how to get there when I've written out where I want to end up? I know there are writers who do this kind of thing regularly, but for so long I used to write mainly chronologically, it's a bit of a leap to go so much out of order, though. But seems to be working so far!

I also spent quite a lot of time thinking about and writing down thoughts on my long-term and medium-term writing goals and how to get to writing the things I want to write. I think that's something I need right now, so that was productive as well.

I'm a linear writer myself, but I have used random access writing to break out of a funk or to find a starting place when I've been lost, and it has definitely produced rich fruits for me, so I hope that you find this experiment fruitful for you, as well.

Also, goal-setting is a great way to get motivated! I hope it helps you to establish a routine and start making the words happen. :-)

Day 15 had me write a snowflake entry that seemed to go over well, and then at another paragraph or two to an assignment. I think it's already achieved the minimums, so it can essentially stop at any time, but I would like it to have a payoff that mirrors its beginnings, so there's still some length to it. Also, a different plot bunny popped into my head and I thought it would be comedic enough to be written turning into a story.

Thanks! Sometimes I do manage to finish something in one day, depends how well things flow when I start writing. The little 500 word ones are almost always done in a day, the longer ones sometimes take 2 or 3, but if an idea takes off and I have the time to spare, sometimes things just work out =)
