Day 8: 1.1k of a fic I didn't mean to start writing (but have been idly contemplating anyway), and some notes-to-self about the fic I'm not allowed to start actively editing again yet. xD
YAY for unconnected WIPs and failed drabbling and all of the words you made. I'm of the firm opinion that everything I write has value, even when it's crap. If nothing else, it clears the way for other, hopefully better/clearer things. Anyway, I applaud your productivity! YAY!
I'm so happy every time I see you reporting your tally, no matter with what - so good to see after the long dry spells you had! ♥ Go you, and congrats to the great word count! *\O/*
Day 8: typed up yesterday's work and realized I am probably at the point where I have to grab all the bits in this section and make them all work together. (Basically all of the notes left on my to do list are "fix opening to x scene" "fix ending to y scene" "rename Character Z to something more period-approriate") I could conceivably make up more intervening stuff but I don't have information that needs to be conveyed to the reader at this time so probably best I just leave most of the intervening time out and come back to it in a later edit if I need to. I did a rough pass of one of the bits but what I need to do is print stuff out so I can go over it with a pen and that is production I need to know in advance that I am doing. So, printing tomorrow. whee.
I like leaving myself those sorts of notes, as well, because once I'm in the mood to address them, I always feel like a mechanic of sorts, sort of doing a "flight check" of the story. "Better character name? Check!" ;-) YAY for having a process and sticking to it!
Days 7 and 8 involved clearing tabs and writing more on a couple projects. Still haven't quite found my way in on the assignment, but I don't think it will be an issue when the right words present themselves.
I went to bed early, before this post was up, so now I'm WAY late!
May 8th - 702 words. Doesn't sound like much, but I wasn't idle. A 500 word challenge ficlet, then I decided since I had all afternoon I'd tackle one of my longest un-posted fics, over 5k. It needed editing and a few bits re-working to make them clearer, then it had to be split in two for posting, because LJ has such a measly character limit and I post there as well as here, and three other places... Anyway, it's done except for a final read through to check for typos before posting. Yay!
Yay, congrats for a very productive writing day! *\O/* I think the actual word count is just that - a count of words. Any given number can be a lot for some and little for others, or even for the same person. I know I've written huge word counts with relatively little effort and true drabbles which were harder than chapters ten times their size. I've stopped at some point to actually post my fics to the journals proper; insteald I'm posting the header info, tags, a summary and possibly an excerpt, but link to the archive(s) they're in. I originally started that because at the time there were recurrent happenings of some people harvesting fic trough some algorithms from DW and LJ to fill their own sites, with the sole intention to create money from clicks. I haven't heard this happening again latey but the habit stuck for me, and TBH the way LJ developped, as far as site hosting and ownership goes, I don't feel comfortable posting my fic there any longer, as it's usually queer-themed in some way.
Day 8: I'm happy to say I made a lot of progress on my silly essay! I mean, it's still all in pieces and a mess, but I'm getting closer to a very rough first draft. Looming deadline! /o\
