ysilme here: The surprise NPC demanded yet more backstory to be written down, to a point where it's becoming its own story. About 200 words for that.

sylvanwitch here: I had today off but a bit of adulting to do (after which, I hit up a rummage sale and got to take a long walk in a park I haven’t been to in a long while), but before I left for my appointment, I edited a bit of the novel.

I am in a similar stage with my draft, wherein I am moving, deleting, reconsidering, tightening, etc. I find I enjoy it, and I like seeing what comes of the story thanks to the changes. I hope you're finding similar satisfaction in this fiddly work. :-)

Day 29: 522 words of "TWICE as many alphas"!

I'm chuckling over here. I just finished reading a m/m alpha-omega novel and enjoyed the choices the author made with the trope. I hope you're enjoying the heck out of your story too!

I am enjoying it! When I started it, I hadn't read much of the trope, so I wasn't sure how a lot of things in the trope would work. I ended up having to decide on a lot of things on the fly as I worked my way through the story, and in the process I probably made some choices that I'd do differently if I was starting this story now. For example, early on I needed for bonding to have some sort of consequence or effect on the alpha in the bonded pair, so I decided that a bonded alpha would be impotent with anyone except the omega they were bonded to. This created a lot interesting situations, but also closed off all plot lines related to infidelity by a bonded alpha.

Oh, that's an excellent variation on the bonding trope! I love it! And it does make for more challenging suspense/tension in complicating the relationship, for sure!

It was useful for this story, because in my version of the trope, when an omega went into heat, having sex with an alpha was the only way to calm them down. In this universe generally the alpha in a K-pop group would "take care of" the omegas, but if the alpha was bonded, then they'd have to bring in an alpha from outside the group. If the members of the group couldn't find an alpha, then they'd have to contact management at their agency, who would arrange for an alpha. This played a huge plot role when both of the alphas in TWICE were bonded but they were having to keep this a secret from their company because they'd both bonded to the same omega, which shouldn't have been possible, and they were having to keep this a secret in order to avoid getting whisked off to a lab somewhere.

Another thing that I made up for this story that I'm particularly proud of is "caste training," the idea being that in high school, once you find out whether you're an alpha, beta, or omega, you go through something like sex ed, where you learn what that means. One of the saying from omega caste training that pops up throughout this story is "Being dominated is the first step to being protested."

I really get bugged when I read a story and I feel like the world just won't "work" because of something that the author left out, so I put a lot of thought into how my world works so I don't have those sorts of feeling when I read my own story.
