ysilme here: 454 for the NP, setting up and writing down notes and character sheets for one of the larger stories I'm planning.

sylvanwitch here: We spent the majority of Day 17 hiking at three different parks and also having a picnic supper, but before we left for the day’s rambles, I added 209 words to the short story.

I 100% agree with that quote -- use the ideas, and use them now. And I love that photo -- what an excellent writing desk that would make, overlooking the water like that!


Jul 17: Knocked off work early to go to the river -- the first river trip of the summer. Did NOT write words while I was there; just let my brain go completely offline and drift. It was delicious. Did write an alibi sentence just now, though, once I'd gotten back and unpacked. :-)

LOl! I'm pleased to report that while fatigue was definitely a result of all the rambling, we did not suffer sunburn and the worst insect activity came from these invasive flies that like to bite but are, thankfully, rather slow. ;-)

Thank you! I'd love to write at that desk, too - when we next go to the island I'm planning to back a picnic etc. for an hour or two spend there just doing that. Preferably on a not sunny day, though, what with my sun allergy. ;op

The hiking was great, particularly as one of the three parks was new-to-us. I always enjoy discovering someplace new.

Sounds like you've both been busy in different ways!

July 17th - 557 words. I finished the fic I was having trouble with, barring a final readthrough before posting, and did some editing/expanding on two other fics.

Excellent productivity, particularly on the editing/expanding. I myself am avoiding editing by writing whimsical short stories. This is by way of not starting yet another novel to avoid editing the other two. ;-)

Whimsical short stories are fun, and you have the satisfaction of finishing something quickly. That's why I mostly write short fics.

Good luck when you finally persuade yourself to do some editing!

I have one of those anxious A-type personalities, so if I don't "do my work" before I go out to play, I cannot fully enjoy myself. I've managed to temper it over the years, but it's still stubbornly hanging in there. ;-)

Day 17: I'm on a botanical survey and we spent last night in a tent. I thought I might write in the tent before I went to bed, but it turns out it's hard to find a remotely ergonomic position to do that. I did do some re-reading and editing on the chapter I finished last night.

I can imagine it would be very difficult to get into a comfortable writing position in a tent! Kudos to you for re-reading and editing--that seems an excellent compromise!

I wrote a solid chapter of Lost Honour in a tent. Lying on my stomach, propped up on both elbows, with a notebook and a pen, which has been a favorite position for both reading and homework since I was a kid.

I've done a lot of writing in this position as well!

Go you for making writing happening also with adverse ergonometry! ;o) Re-reading and editing is important, too.
Our current camping chairs were chosen for their usability for writing with my notebook on my lap, which served me very well! *g* When I wrote longhand I often wrote lying on my belly, as I said below, but I'm schlepping my laptop around now if at all possible, not only to write but also for backups and organisation of my photos. ;o) But being left-handed I also can't write longhand without a proper surface/table when sitting as I always need full support for my left arm.
