Day 13 meant finding and writing the ending for my outstanding assignment, as well as making sums prices on my biggest stories that I need to sit with and figure out what is going on so those can start moving more in the direction of done.
Day 14 involved some attempts at progression on that front, along with more work toward making the presentation better.yes,it's not sure until September, but it needs to get done so I have space for everything else involved that's somewhat work related.
I applaud you for getting this presentation out of the way now. (I'm the same way about stuff like that.) YAY!
Also, YAY for getting to the ending of your assignment and then spending time and energy thinking about the other stories that need getting done. I hope you find beautiful endings for every one of them! :-)
*hugs* for sylvanwitch! That mindset is no fun, I hope you can take a breather and come back to it when you're less frustrated.
And yay for blog posts, ysilme!
Day 14: Uh probably a couple hundred words of fic, and then going !!! at something almost certainly not meant as a prompt and mentally plotting out a crossover I really shouldn't write but also know I probably will...
*hugs back* Thank you for the kind and supportive words. I ogled it a bit today but didn't really firm up the ending. That said, it doesn't suck as much as I thought it did (?). Brains, why are they even like this? *sighs*
You so know you're going to write the crossover, don't you? I get that sled-running-away-down-a-hill feeling whenever I encounter something I know I shouldn't be writing but totally am plotting in my head. ;-) It's a good feeling, really.
I'm still wrapping up all the worldbuilding and outlining, and I also edited about half a chapter of another work before getting hopelessly distracted by pet videos on Youtube. :D
Pet videos are absolutely distracting, which is why I don't look at them and why my husband, who DOES look at them, is forever sending me links...and then I end up looking anyway! Lol! Evil but adorable. ;-)
YAY for worldbuilding and outlining and editing! That's awesome!
Day 14: Prep for sending part 2 off to the cheerleaders - checked that spellcheck hadn't picked up something I'd missed - went back to the part 1 doc to do a find and replace on the name of a character I'd renamed and to move the last 10 pages, which I'd reordered and expanded since I sent part 1, into part 2 -did some research to figure out better names for two "historical" figures I'd previously earmarked for renaming and replaced them in the doc (one is a bigger deal than the other although the cheerleaders won't notice because the big deal one is mentioned all of once in part 1, it's just a big deal to *me* because it's a name that's been in the text for a very long time) -created a pdf of part 2 and emailed both parts to my cheerleaders (at least one had mentioned she'd like part 1 again for ease of reference) with a couple notes.
I did end up sending the shorter version instead of the long version, although most of my work since Thursday has been on parts after where I ended part 2. So that's another 20k words that are... well, not in stone but Not to Be Fussed With and now I move on: typed up work from yesterday.
sylvanwitch: Oh, I know that feeling. Sometimes it's good to let it sit and come back to it fresh, when you've gotten to be all doubts about it. Or another good exercise can be to start with a fresh document and write it new from the top again, knowing everything you know now about it, and see how it comes together if you're letting the story flow.
Me: A paragraph of midnight cuddling for the Fake Marrieds in their Only One (not so very big) Bed.
Man, this story your writing is, like, tailor-made for hitting all my iddy favorite places. :-) I am so looking forward to reading it!
Also, THANK you for the suggestions. I'm going to try that second one. In fact, it's made me excited about tomorrow's writing adventure. It reminds me of the way Benjamin Franklin taught himself to write essays. I've always admired his method but never had the patience for it. What you're suggesting here is similar, and I'm going to give it a go! THANK YOU! :-)
I can relate to that feeling of having this ONE thing that has to fall in place, otherwise the rest of life is totally up in the air. It's extremely irritating in a sand-in-the-shorts sort of way, and I am just sending ALL the apartment-finding energy your way!
Thanks!! I finally found a couple today that my roommate and I really liked and we put in an application. Now it's just waiting to see if we get approved ... knock on wood!
I know, right? I'm still trying to get used to being on break (I'm really bad at breaks...I mean, REALLY bad), and I keep forgetting what day of the week it is and then having this sort of mild but thrashing panic that I'm supposed to be Doing Something Else. And then I remember that I'm on break, usually about the same moment I realize it's Tuesday or whatever. Very disconcerting.
Anyway, sorry, that was a ramble! Lol!
YAY for words! You're making words! And you've been making them every day! YOU? AWESOME!
Ysilme, you sound productive, and Sylvanwitch, that sounds frustrating! Maybe you can ask a beta for help?
On the 14th, I have: - edited chapter 20 of the poly fic, except for one bit I'm a little stuck on, - written 700 words on my new longfic (total wordcount: 1000 words).
sylvanwitch: *hugs and hugs* That's such a hard stage to be at! Good luck! <3 ysilme: Yay for blog posts! <3
15th: I added 547 words to my exchange treat, and now the first draft is finished! Yay! (And then I realised some of the tags I distinctly remember brainstorming were missing from my file, and I couldn't find them in any previous versions either, so now I'm worried about backups and all that again, argh! What is happening? Why is OneDrive so weird?) Also added, like, four words to my WIP#2 and am hoping to make serious progress on it tomorrow. And get the exchange fic to beta. :-)
YAY for finished drafts, but BOO! for uncertain backups and missing stuff. That's Not Okay. I hope you figure it out. (I don't use OneDrive, though it's available to me, because it's weird? I don't remember what turned me off of it. I actually pay for a backup service--Carbonite, which used to be Mozy. I'm not shilling for them, but I will say that I've had occasions to use those backups AND the backups themselves are seamless and unobtrusive.)
Good luck with WIP#2. I hope today was a good writing day for you! :-)
Just checking in quickly before I completely drop out of the habit again: I did write a bit every day, so please add me for the 11th through 15th? Thanks muchly!
YAY for writing every day and for checking in! You know we're here, and we're SO glad you are too. I hope your time situation evens out for you soon, so you don't feel so rushed and without time to write. :-)
Sorry: Alibi sentences (plus a few bits on the silly essay) for Days 9-14.
My mom is still having health problems, though (cross fingers) things seem to have finally leveled off. So I've been distracted.
(And if I could send people "to the cornfield" with my brain like in the old Twilight Zone episode, my brother and sister would be shucking corn right now.)
In lighter news, the fanzine editor who wants the silly essay sent me a prodding e-mail reminding me of the deadline -- which is July 31, not the end of June! I told him he should have waited a few more weeks, since I was madly writing to get it done and so he might have gotten it a month early! 8-D Oh well! I'm still going to madly write on it -- who knows, I might even get it done by the end of the month. ;-)
I'm sorry to hear about your mom, I hope things are going to be better soon! I'll keep my fingers for her - and you - crossed! *hugs* But yay for writing happening, and the much longer deadline!
I hope your mom is better soon. That is a draining situation all the way around. *hugs*
Congrats on being so diligent and ahead-of-schedule on the fanzine essay! YAY! *grins* It'll feel good to have it done long before you have to have it in. :-)
*hugs* Thank you, my friend. I think it'll be okay? I've had a certain lessening of confidence in my writing ability for at least the past year, maybe longer? And it's really starting to impact my satisfaction with original fic. I don't have it so much with fanfic--I feel like that's a template, sort of, that I completely understand. But original fic? Not so much anymore. Gone are the days of ignorant confidence, I guess. Lol! Anyway, I appreciate the encouragement, my friend.
I was busy with my new job and missed the check-in, but I did a little writing on the humorous prompt, (including coming up with an idea for how someone lost a bet.)
