Jan 23: Jumped to the middle of the story, and did three longhand pages on the bus this morning, plus another page at lunch.

I wrote on the 22nd, quite a few words, going back to the week of the Giving of Grief, as well as a few scattered words on other projects.

On the 23rd, I composed a snowflake challenge entry and posted it, with some poking around and commenting on other people's entries.

23rd: Realised with some help from a friend that my time travel story wasn't working because it was the wrong story. Alibi levels of starting to re-outline.

24th: More substantial outlining -- or, well, actually just a crowded page of scribbled notes (many of them recycled), plus 235 words of the new beginning. I am hopeful!

Day 23: edited chapter 3 of the draft, which included adding 292 words, and wrote a nice round 1,000 words on one of the WIPs due at the end of February.

Good luck getting back to fic, ysilme! I'm so behind on alllll the snowflakes. Maybe I'll write some yet. Who knows! And yay for getting close to finishing your story, sylvanwitch!

I did a lot of freewriting about what to do with my various short story drafts and ideas, and the result was that I felt more confused about them than when I started, and I'm not sure what to do with any of them, and probably all of them require research or such before I can really get a handle on their plot. So, uh, that was less helpful than I hoped, but maybe it's better to discover that from 20 minutes of freewriting than 10,000 words of meandering draft that avoids the main plot points? Might be easier to work out the solutions if I'm aware of the problems already?

I also did some words on the ambush project in the evening, but I was so tired by then I don't know if they amounted to much. We'll see when I continue that scene!

It sounds like you're doing the heavy lifting sort of work with your projects, trying to figure out where to go and what needs doing before you set out. That can be disheartening because it often feels like you're further from the writing when you get to the end of the process than you were before you started it. I totally get that; I've had that experience myself. I think it's a valuable exercise, though, for the reasons you note here, i.e. it saves you time and effort later on. I hope you find the threads you need for each of your stories and are able to make a plan for approaching them.

Also, YAY for adding words to something after all that hard work on the story drafts!

Day 23 - Only 1000 words because I wasn't feeling all that great. A 500 word ficlet to post tonight, a double drabble, and a triple drabble. I always need more drabbles for my drabble collections.

Thank you. Today has been better but busy, so I didn't get to work on the challenge I'd intended to tackle, but writing still happened so it's all good =)

20 mins longhand at lunch. (AusOpen schedule is making me creative at finding time to write) Revisiting old scenes was not what I wanted to be doing until I had a full draft but apparently to get a full draft, I have to.

Sometimes the process goes in unexpected directions, doesn't it? I wish you luck in finding the time you need and that the words will flow easily for you when you do. :-)
