ysilme here: Today's quote was chosen by sylvanwitch, the photo is mine. Day 26: alibi sentence + some 600 words of nonfic.

sylvanwitch here: I received a rejection for the close-to-my-heart horror story I'd submitted three weeks ago. I think that makes five times it's been rejected. I will keep trying, though, because I firmly believe there is a home out there for it. In response to that disappointment, I tried writing an alibi sentence and ended up with 361 words of a new story, including a detailed paragraph about where it's going, so there's that. If rejection keeps breeding new stories in me, I guess I'm okay with it.

Re: today's quote: oh yes, absolutely! ♥ I'm also currently in the process of doing that re: the subjects I'm writing about. Most of what I published so far had been exchange and challenge fics, and while they really broadened my horizon and made me repeatedly step out of my comfort zone, which in turn improved my writing abilites not only a litte, I'm convinced - but often it's not been that what I really enjoy writing, which is hurt/comfort and a degree of world builiding and geekyness many readers find boring. *g* I'm in the process of changing that, and where I did it I found it much more rewarding so far, and also creating more of an audience, which I'm really happy about as I've never been inundated with feedback, on the contrary. ;op

I find the same thing–some of the fics I thought would be the most absurdly specific nonsense that could only appeal to me turned out to be amongst the most well-liked things I've posted (although some of them really are as obscure as I think—but those are worth writing too :P ). I'm glad you're finding an appreciative audience for your geeky worldbuilding hurt/comfort, which sounds like an excellent thing to be writing in any case. :D

Oh no, how frustrating and disappointing! ***big hugs*** I'm sure there's a home for it somehwere, too, and keeping trying is the best approach, no matter how disheartening it feels. If it's any consolation - when searching for writing quotes to use I found so many about countless rejections those authors received, so you're in the best company! ♥ Go you for writing despite this, and for even getting so much out of this situation! *hugs* Disappointments often breed good stories, I've found, or pain of any kind, and since we usually can't escape these, at least let's reap the silver lining benefits, so-to-say. ;op

Thank you so much, my dear! *hugs* I am definitely growing a thicker skin where rejections are concerned and am hopeful that this story will find the right home eventually. One of its earliest rejections was a personal one, with some lovely comments from the editor saying that the story haunted her but that it wasn't quite the right fit for their anthology. That gave and gives me real hope that the story needs to be out in the world and will eventually find its way there. :-)
