ysilme here: no writing for me yet today; I slept in, was lazy, and then we went to my parents for a lovely pre-Christmas tea hour (my sisters and I decided to see my parents separately with our families each, and as they have kids we left them the Christmas days). Now I just got my assignment for My Slashy Valentine, so the rest of the evening will be spent with writing down first ideas and perhaps doing some research.

sylvanwitch here: Another batch of (slightly better) essays. I'm just past the halfway point with them, but at least the second half should be better. I hope. We had errands to run today (ugh), but I just finished adding another 986 words to the novel.

Dec 20th - 972 words, a challenge ficlet and a double drabble.

Knitting - nearly finished the fawn coloured arm warmers, I'll get the last few rows done shortly.

Congratst to the word count, and all the arm warmers! Are you doing so many to have somethin got knit, or wear them on top of each other? Or just to have a choice?

Partly to have a choice but mostly because without heat I can't get laundry dry so I need enough that I can switch to clean ones. I've got 5 pairs finished, three more to sew up, and I've promised my neighbour a pair.

I wrote 2k in one go today because a yuletide treat I'd been batting around in my head finally gave me the hook I needed to write it. :)

Check-in: 350 words today, if I count generously. (A number of them were rewritten from yesterday.) Less progress than I wanted, but I ended yesterday stuck and frustrated, and today I fixed that and moved forward, so hurrah.

MSV (My Slashy Valentine) is a long-standing exchange in the Tolkienverse, one of the major ones to my knowledge. As the assignments are due on the 1st of February already for firt-timers, and a good part of the participants tend to write around 5k, some even 10 and beyond, it's a good thing they're handed out so early. I wrote nearly 10k when I first participated, and it's been a wild ride, also deadline-wise. *g*
Yay for writing and getting unstuck today!

Thank you. I got a lovely - and easy - assignment, which is a blessing after last round's desaster - a difficult request which I accepted in good faith, found it really challenging to write, only to be met with a defaulting participant who never even acknowledged their gift until very recently, and then only with a token comment (at least thanking your author is a requirement for this exchange), and also not really getting feedback for it from others. I can't shuck the feeling the story is rubbish, alhtough my betas kindly say otherwise...

Checking in for Days 19 and 20, words written on the daily posting, which are more than I thought they were, and some tab-clearing so I retroactively feel less disappointed about how much I wrote. Plus, you know, correspondence and shopping and other stuff that is also necessary and not writing.

So much to do this time of year, right? But you're keeping your hand in and getting words down AND tab-clearing, too. It's all progress of a kind, and you rock for doing it! :-)

What an amazing word count after the grading and errands! *\O/* I'm continually in awe about your ability to work steadily and with such results at a project. I've recently realised that I still fail at that, despite having long since gotten into the habit of writing every day. Your example is my new goal, writing proper fic - and preferably at one project at a time - continuously. How do you manage to stick to it even when RL demands are high, energy and creativity is low, you're overwhelmed and so on?

Thank you, my friend, very much for the cheering on. So, for me, I'm almost monogamous when it comes to projects. Only rarely can I divide my attention without losing the original momentum. Part of it is, I think, a kind of writing superstition that if I spend too much time away, I'll lose the "voice" I'm using when I'm writing whatever it is. The other part of it is that my anxiety has always been, in part, based on finishing things on deadline, even if that deadline is totally self-imposed; I can't "have fun" doing something else (e.g. reading, watching a show, whatever) if I feel the work I'm "supposed" to be doing hanging over my head. Too, more this year than ever, the place my daily writing occupies in keeping me emotionally healthy has been vital. Having a single, dedicated, long-term project has been a blessing for this year--a single point of stability and control that I can count on. I don't know if any of that helps you with your goals, but that's me in a nutshell--a squirming bundle of coping mechanisms and neuroses. :-)
