My tally for day 28: 1,5k for a blog post and a long diary entry. At least the headache is gone although my neck and shoulders are still stiff as concrete.sylvanwitch here: I squeezed in 194 words on the new story before I had to finish my packing up. We're heading home today, stopping along the way to sightsee, but for all intents and purposes, this lovely vacation is at an end. :-(

Date: 2022-07-30 09:52 am (UTC)Thatn being said, I honestly believe that quote needs also be seen in relation to the intensity of the piece you're writing, if that makes any sense, but can also rather be a guideline of where to aim. As I said elsewhere, I'm currently in the process of changing my writing intent/content from what I think others might want or like to read to what I really want to write, and want to read myself, and the quote resonates with me to confirm that albeit with a different wording - I'm not writing novels at that, so I think the interpretation also needs to be regarded with our respecitve writing projects in mind. I'm also sometimes writing intense angst and hurt before the comfort parts I so love, and intend to write more of that - but of course, the "content of my heart, mind and soul" aren't that I'm enjoying to hurt or torture people, far from it. *g* I think the quote boils down to "don't write for vanity, but for passion", write what you need to say and not what others expect or want you to say, or, even simpler, write for yourself so you feel "you" in your writing. Writing well-crafted sentences sounds very much like something passionate for me, something you want to write. I mostly do, too, but sometimes there's a story when I don't want to bother with that and rather get out a certain impression or feeling, and then I'm rather settling for that. I once had an interesting conversation with my British beta about this: I tend to often not find or know the right term for something, and one of her main jobs is taking the Germanisms out and exchanging words readers might not fully understand. But when terms are just unsusual but used correctly, even if a native speaker of English wouldn't ever use them in this context, she leaves them (pointing them out to me, thoug), saying it might be unfamiliar but it's understandable, and it's my voice. I'm really glad about this as sometimes the correct term just feels wrong to me, and the unusual one feels much better. (But then again, I'm speaking neither American nor British English, but European English, as I've recently learned.)
