ysilme here: We had a nearly two-hour power outtage this morning during my usual "office work" time, so I haven't had as much time as usual for recreational writing. I wrote about 500 words of meta so far, am still brooding over the edits for a short article I wrote, and hopefully will get to some fic afterwards still.

sylvanwitch here: From nowhere, two characters I'm lukewarm about in a show that isn't all that great insisted on a fuck-or-die narrative examining the personal consequences of homophobia, toxic masculinity, and identity issues in a hyper-masculine law enforcement setting. *shakes head at self* So yeah, that's what I'm writing, apparently, if the 826 words I've got so far mean anything. *sighs*

Jan 28: Another four longhand pages, bus and lunch.

Yesterday, the longhand was starting to bother my arthritis, so I'm using my brace again, and we'll see if that helps. (I should probably also start doing my therapy exercises again, huh?)

Between tennis and brainweasels over the last couple days I had to very firmly sit myself down tonight but when I did the writing came more easily than I thought. Typed it and a previous day's stuff up, so today's count is 695 words. \o/

I suppose for many people an outtage of less than two hours isn't a big deal, but we're having these so rarely it's always annoying. Thankfully my laptop was charged so I could work a bit, but it's been so cloudy at the same time it was totally dark inside, and I don't dare to light a candle on the messy heap of papers which is my desk. *lol* Or one of our oil or petroleum lamps, at that.
By the way, you offered to possibly host February some time back, is that offer still valid?

For me it's the time of year that outtages bother me. I'm 100% electric for heat

Ugh--we had a malfunction in the furnace that heats the top two-thirds of the house and only got the plumber here today, so it's been COLD in the library, my workroom, bedroom, and upstairs bathroom (where the shower is) since last Thursday. I don't even want to see my electric bill for all the little space heaters we had running in here. Ugh! Anyway, we also lose heat when the power goes out, so I can relate to your concerns.

Thank you, hon! *hugs* So, the plumber came today, and then T. went to a doctor's appointment and then was sent immediately for an ultrasound, and then he was seen by a surgeon (this never happens so quickly in the American healthcare system), who told him he has two hernias in addition to the one he already knew about. Thankfully, none of them require immediate surgery, but we're planning the surgery for my spring break, so I can be home for him for the first few days, especially. It shouldn't be any big deal (barring complications), but still... Got one bit of plumbing fixed, found out another bit needs repair. ;-)

Eeep, I can imagine! We're lucky in that regard with our wood stove as well as the insulation of the house; we're having passive house standard for that so even without any heating in winter temperatures wouldn't drop below 15°C/60°F, which is, obviously, cold, but much better than unheated. We have a wood pellet heating system but it needs power to ignite, for the pellets transport, and for the circulation in the house. But thanks to an open plan with open staircase we can heat all important rooms well with the stove if necessary. I can even cook as I have a gas cooker, and in the living room light by oil or petroleum lamp isn't a problem. But on the other side the loo wouldn't flush as the cistern pump needs power to work. What worries me most with outtages is my large standup freezer which is filled with harvested veggies and fruit, and to 1/3rds with meat for raw-feeding the cats, and a little part for ourselves (we get a part of a pasture-raised heifer once a year). I'd really hate to let all of that go to waste, but in comparison it's not a real problem, compared to issues like freezing in winter or so.
What I also hate is that not even the mobile phones are working, as the responsible radio mast is on the same grid, it seems. I'm having this weird kind of paranoia that when no contact is possible something bad happens necessitating a phone or so.

In the winter I have the option of putting fridge stuff in plastic bins and chucking them on the porch (not sure what your fauna situation would be) but I have zero gas/wood burning so no food, no heat but I can flush!

That's a real worry with the phone (I still have aland line in case because of my health) actually in the Virginia tech shooting that DID happen, they jammed the carriers for the cell phone and nothing worked

Day 28 - 1375 words! One short Torchwood fic, two more FAKE drabbles, and 83 words added to the WiP. Not much there, but I'm at a tricky point and I'm not sure where to go. Just waiting for the character to have a brainwave and tell me what he's going to do next. =/

I'm adding words to a recent assignment that I think the recipient will enjoy. It's answering some of the guiding questions in a form that seems to make sense for me to write it, and I can only hope that it will be as well-received as I am finding it good to write.

It always makes me happy to hear someone enjoying the process. I know writing can be a labor for a lot of us, so it just feels good to know that it's not always that way. YAY! :-)
