Check-in: 2K words, baby! And I even synced up the beginning with the stuff I wrote previously, so that I now have exactly 8K words of continuous story! (On the dot, even!)

Of course, the downside of 8K words of continuous story is that apparently this is going to be a longfic? Eh. Also, the downside of making all the parts sync up is that I'm not at all sure what I'm going to do tomorrow for my writing time? But tomorrow is tomorrow's problem. Today I wrote 2K and made all the parts sync up!

The early evening, yes, I had a lot of relaxing fun doing a jigsaw puzzle - one of the most relaxing and destressing activities. I had some kitchen work to do later which could't wait so I wouldn't waste food, made somewhat tedious as our heating system is down and we don't have hot water (the house stays warm from the fire, but heating water for dishes is more of an effort, and if you're deboning a cooked chicken and have to fend off four interested felines at the same time, it can get tiring. *g* (It was the chicken form our Christmas dinner broth. Interesting experience: I got it from our farmer who switched to free-range eggs, and sells these hens later, too; relatively young birds who run around all her life on a meadow. I've never seen or felt such dark, lean, and firm chicken flesh, which rings really home what a different life this one has had!)

Dec 26th - 1000 words on a challenge fic. It would have been longer (and will be expanded before posting to my journal) but there's a 1k limit on the challenge.

Knitting - finished the first multicoloured arm warmer and then spent ages untangling the rest of the yarn.

Excellent word count! I always admire that you can nail these word limits. It's something I struggle with.

Thanks! It's mostly practice and hard editing since I usually go over the limit., but then I put back what I've taken out and write some more before posting to my journal. That way I fit the challenge but still get the story finished to my satisfaction.

I was chatting on discord and someone mentioned "oh, this pairing is interesting, how would it happen though" and then spent the next ten minutes writing a sketched outline for one way it could happen. And everyone was all like "so... write it?" and now I guess I have a more fleshed-out outline? That's fun. Maybe I'll actually write it, that'd be pretty cool. xD; (but also it's a longfic that'd need me to do some specific research/rereading of the canon, so... we'll see!)

Hahaha! That old Discord game of "Who can we get to write it??" I'm never quite sure if I'm winning or losing that game...

Gods, is it possible Discord is old enough to have "old Discord game[s]"? Don't get me wrong, Discord is yet another fandom thing I am not participating in (along with Tumblr, Twitter, uh...everything? Lol!), but it seems to me like it was only yesterday I was hearing about it for the first time, and now it's "old." The interwebz moves to fast for me. ;-)

I was being facetious; the game is far older than Discord. It's been played for as long as you could get fans together anywhere for something approximating a chat. The game being, "I just had a great idea for a fic! Now which poor sap shall I talk into writing it...?"

Hence my never knowing if I'm winning or losing. On the one hand, hooray, a great idea for a new story! This'll be so much fun to write! On the other hand, boo, I have a new story to work on and sweat over in addition to all my others...

Ah, gotcha! I sincerely wondered if Discord *is* already passe, though, given how swiftly things move in technology (and with fandom trends). But yes, I am somewhat familiar with the phenomenon you describe despite my living in the shadows and margins of fandom online. :-)

It sounds like a great deal of fun, which is what, ideally, writing is for all of us (when it's not being a pain in the butt--and sometimes even when it is; I swear, we're all masochists sometimes). Anyway, whether or not you write it, I'm glad you had fun with the story outline!

I started filling empty trees at fandomtrees (if anyone wants to make someone's holiday, there are so many fandoms there if you're in a drabbling mood) so I got 1535 words doing that and another 560 for a friend's holiday fic.

I could probably do January. I'm only hesitating because I'm starting that class in Jan on top of all the covid crap I have to do.
