ysilme here: and another alibi sentence day for me - I spent most of the day on and off with two different repairmen to fix our heating system which wasn't working since the 23rd - our regular guy couldn't come earlier as he had to quarantine so we improvised instead of forking out the additional holiday fee for the emergency service, but it's going to be painfully expensive even so, and left me totally knackered. On the plus side, I did some real life writing research about pre-modern personal body hygiene and how washing with a bucket of hot water in an unheated room at -1°C outside temperature feels. Pouring the remainder of a bucket of hot water over yourself is actually quite nice. ^^

sylvanwitch here: 3449 words for me, finishing the chapter. I did that in two separate sessions, which turned out to be a good choice, as I was able to work through a couple of plot points in the between time. I have, I think, two more chapters and a brief epilogue and the first draft will be done. I'm planning to pound those out over the next three days. I think I can do it.

29th: 1505 words to finish a gift fic, and I've printed it out for a read-through. Now trying to figure out what's next, so I can write an opening paragraph and have something to work on tomorrow. :-)

Thank you, my friend. It's definitely a necessity if I want to finish this by the new year, which I both do and do not want. Naturally, I'd like it finished, but as it's been my free therapy since the spring, I'm not sure what it's going to feel like not to have to be working on it. I think I'm going to bridge the gap by writing some Justified porn-with-plot, as one does. ;-)

I've only written a little in the Justified fandom, and that was back in its original run. I wrote Dean Winchester/Raylan Givens in a three-part SPN/J crossover, and I wrote a one-shot Boyd/Raylan. I'd like to write some Tim Gutterson/Raylan Givens this time around.

sylvanwitch: Woo, look at that word count! And a finished chapter! *does the finished chapter dance* How long do your chapters tend to be? Do you aim for a consistent length, or do they fall wherever they may?

Check-in: I also finished a chapter today! (Apparently this is a multi-chaptered fic now!) 1K words, plus a picnic at the highest spot in the city (we saw four snowpeaks!) plus a big pot of chili from scratch. Not a bad day, in all!

I do not have any set idea of how long chapters should be, though I suspect some of them have been too long? In most cases, I just try to find a natural ending point; this chapter ended with the protagonist going to sleep, for example, so the next chapter, in which Something Happens, naturally starts the next day.

I often try to end mine on an expectant note, if that makes any sense. (e.g., someone saying, "What could possibly go wrong?") Or when something significant changes: someone resolving on a plan of action or a Very Bad Decision, or a development in the plot. Something like that.

Sometimes I end on a note of tension; sometimes I end because it's nighttime, and the character is going to sleep. Sometimes I end like C.S. Forester. ;-) LOVE that example!

On 26th, 27th and 28th I've continued working on my novel again, though in fairly small chunks so far. Especially yesterday I'm glad I got anything done, though, since I was up till 10 pm finishing an assignment for one of my classes and was pretty frazzled afterwards. Deadlines on New Year's Eve aren't fair...

I just realized I forgot to do nominations for Chocolate Box and they closed last night. Thankfully there seem to be enough fandoms around nominated by other people that I'll be able to sign up. I'd just have liked to add a few lesser known ones in the hopes of getting more fic for them, too.

Oh dear, good luck with your heating system problems, Ysilme. Yay for real-life research about pre-modern ways of life! :-D Though I can imagine it's not very comfortable, but you know, gotta take the opportunities where you can find them. :-D

Days 27 and 28 had writing involved with them! And a whole bunch of other things, too, but the important part is that there was writing involved. In trying to set myself up for later success by doing the good prework on posts that will go up later. And I'm almost done with the full month of talking posts, so that's good and another sign of consistency.

I hear you regarding washing with a basin of hot water, in the cold. Been there. Done that and was surprised at how far you can stretch a kettle full of hot water when you have to. I keep trying the write every day, thing, but forget to upload the numbers here!

Yes, it's interesting how far you can get with something if you need! *g* I knew already how little (hot) water you can get away with to get dishes clean, but I now have a whole new respect for people having to wash in a river or so in the winter.
Don't worry if you forgot to check in, there's also no need to list the word count or so; most of us just do it for our own record-keeping or so. I'm happy to edit you in for any day you wrote, just let me know the dates. Is this also a check-in for today?
