ysilme here: just an alibi sentence so far, as I'm putting this up early tonight, but there's probably time for more later. This is by far the most relaxed New Year's Eve I've had in decaodes, although we're usually only meeting with our two best friends and spend the evening playing tabletop games.

sylvanwitch here: I'm thrilled to report that I finished the first draft of the novel I've been working on since May. Today's word count is 3479, and the total length of this first draft is 145,894 words, of which probably 20-30K will be weeded out in the editing. For now, though, I'm going to enjoy my accomplishment and let myself write some fanfiction for the next few days as reward for finishing the draft. My year total word count is 252,261 words, which is more than 100K over my initial goal for the year. It's been a good one, writing-wise, which is more than I can say for most other aspects of this dumpster fire of a year. Thank you to the WED community for supporting me through this draft: You've been amazing cheerleaders!

Dec 31st - 1029 words, and I made it through the whole year, despite circumstances beyond my control, so YAY! Also more than doubled my original word count goal, which is not unusual because I always set myself an easily manageable goal. I don't like stressing myself.

Knitting - Another 34 rows on neighbour's arm warmers. Dark navy is hard to knit in artificial light.

I completely forgot to check my overal word count for the year earlier. *g* I'm at 247k which I find rather surprising, considering it's been such an abysmal writing year for me. My goal had been 200k although I expected to go over when I set it, but I also prefer to set my goal well withing the manageable realm.
It's already 2021 here and we enjoyed a very relaxed turn of the year, with the furries for once not in panic but relatively relaxed, as there were nearly no fireworks.

Wow, congrats for finishing your novel draft, sylvanwitch! Well done! And it relieves me I'm not the only person with long first drafts. Not that my own current novel is anywhere near (it's at about 30K) but I did only start the writing in November. You're been incredibly productive, awesome!

Thank you both for hosting this month and for being such kind and supportive members of the WED community! And thanks to everyone who's participated over the year, it's been one of the things making this year better, even if I've slipped in regular check-in during the last few months due to life things and time management.

Anyway, I'm glad to report that I did write on the 29th, 30th and 31st as well. Though on the 29th and 30th I just penned some ideas and brainstorming in my notebooks because I'd been working so much at the computer for my study assignments I just didn't want to stare at the screen some more. But there was both thinking about the novel, and writing down some other story ideas that had come to me recently and that I didn't want to lose. Last night, just before the year ended, I managed to add some more paragraphs to one of the big scenes of my novel draft, which I've been working on for a while, trying to figure out its logistics. Would have been nice to move forward from that before the end of the year, but I did end the year writing some "hey now, things aren't that bad, we're still in one piece and have oxygen" sentiments which was... good, I think. :) And part of building up a friendship that will be a very important part of the novel.

I'm pleased to be done and relieved to be able to write fanfiction for a little bit before plunging into the editing process. I appreciate your commiseration on the length, too. This is definitely a wordy one and will need significant pruning!

Congratulations on writing every day despite the screen-time issue (I definitely share that reluctance to sit in front of the computer even a few minutes more when I'm teaching and working remotely) and being so busy with schoolwork. I think it's AWESOME that you are doing both, and it makes me happy for you to hear that you are still working on your novel and that you are having some success with and satisfaction for that project.
